Charles and I became friends while I was stationed at the Naval Air Facility in El Centro. It was nice to have friends other than just navy people.

Mr. Hartshorn was my teacher at Finley Elementary in Holtville Ca. As an 8 year old third grader, I whole heartedly believed him when he said he was 100 years old. I now know he was in his fifties. Recently in the last 5 years, I ran into him at one of Yuma's libraries. He had entered an art contest. I introduced myself as one of his former former students and he remembered my brother, the time my Dad volunteered for science day, where my parents live, and their occupations. I will always remember his name, his affinity for leather jackets, and his classic yellow car. Holtville will always remember his name. Mr. Hartshorn was a remarkable person and the quintessential educator that made a difference in the lives of so many students. We carry the teachers of our past in our hearts and we honor them with our actions. Blessings in this time of sadness to the Hartshorn family.

Mr. Hartshorn was a huge influence in my life. I was blessed to not only have him as a teacher, he was another "dad" to me as a teen. He worked hard to live a full healthy life and inspired me in many ways setting a good example. Big hugs to Sarah and her mom at this difficult time. May the many happy memories live on.
