DANIEL OTIS
ROBINSON
Oct. 6, 1935 - Jan. 23, 2009
Mr. Robinson, son of the late Alfred and Jennie Belle Robinson, was born October 6, 1935 in Creighton, Pennsylvania. He attended and graduated from East Deer High school in Pennsylvania, excelling in football and basketball. His first job was as an ice truck vendor before going off to work at J.L. Specialty Steel Mill. Soon after he bought a dump truck and collected steel from the bigger retail outlets. He then purchased gas stations in Pennsylvania and bought an apartment building. He later began working at Don Allen Chevrolet in Pittsburgh.
He then decided that he wanted to come out to California, so he picked up and left with his wife, Jean, son Gary and mother and father and headed straight to La Mirada, CA where he purchased a bar and apartment buildings. He then decided to sell the bar and venture into buying a used car dealership in Lynnwood, CA. He had decided that his main goal in life was to someday own and operate his own dealership. Well, that opportunity came along and there were 3 dealerships available in Southern, CA. He took the journey to Calexico with his father, Alfred and as soon as he arrived into town and scanned the dealership which was W.W. Ford Sales he made up his mind. He then looked at his father and said, "This is a WINNER!" And the rest is history. The name was soon changed to Robinson Ford Sales, Inc. Dan, Jean, Alfred, Jennie Belle and Gary packed up in L.A. and made their move to Calexico in November 1968. Soon after Larry and Randy were born 3 years apart.
Dan was involved and active in many organizations which included Calexico Little League where he was a coach and sponsor for over 40 years and the Calexico Chamber of Commerce where he was a member for over 18 years and also past president from 1987 - 1988. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Elks Lodge #1382.
While still operating Robinson Ford, Dan began to try other business ventures such as farming and industrial parks, just to name a few. He also became an avid owner and breeder of Thoroughbred Race horses. This was one of his great passions.
Mr. Robinson was reunited with his wife in heaven Friday, January 23, 2009, the couple's 49th anniversary. He passed away from congestive heart failure at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
Dan has passed on many of his passions in his life to his three boys, Gary, Larry and Randy. They have in turn, learned the trade of the car business and will continue to run it as their father had planned. His three boys, as he liked to refer to them, were his life. They were his number one passion in life and he lived for them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alfred and Jennie Belle and wife, Jean Ann Robinson.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Karla Robinson of El Centro, Larry and Ana Robinson of Calexico and Randy and Margie Robinson of Calexico; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Joanne Corradene; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Schick of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren, Robby of Texas, Steven of Cathedral City, Roxanne, Danielle and Larry Jr., all of El Centro, Alexis, Gary Jr., Rozinna, Trevor, Coby, Jean Ann and Daniel, all of Calexico and numerous nieces and nephews in Pennslyvania. He is also survived by his companion, Clarissa Macias who was there for him every step of the way.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico.
Funeral Service will commence at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico with Father Gerardo Fernandez officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Gary, Larry, Randy and families,
I’m not as eloquent as many of those who have written here, but I want you all to know how much we loved Uncle Dan and how very much we will miss him. He was always so warm and wonderful to us, whether we were there or he was here. No one ever wanted to miss a chance to visit with him, because he could lift your spirits in a heartbeat with a funny story, a joke or a silly face. Uncle Dan would always ask for Michael when he was going to tell us a joke, because Michael would bust out with a gut-wrenching laugh that only Uncle Dan could bring out of him.
We all know what a successful man he was, but you all must have been his greatest accomplishments. He always sounded so proud when he talked about all of you, from Gary all the way down to little Daniel. You truly are a special family and are loved by us all. We will pass our memories of him on to all that come along and he will remain fondly in our hearts alongside Aunt Jean and the rest of your families.

To my dearest cousins - Gary,Larry,& Randy, and their families,
You all have my heartfelt condolences and my prayers for you to be able to find peace in the wonderful memories your father/grandfather left us with. I will always treasure the memories of all our vacations, the trips to San Felipe, the dune buggies, Disney World, grilling carne asada, and the special quesadillas, The trips to San Diego & the races, the sugar beet fields, the watermelon fields, and the cattle ranch. His were still the best watermelons by far. These are all special memories I hold dear to my heart. He was loved and will be missed by all as, Aunt Jean, your mom is missed. However, she has called him home to be with her on their anniversary. This alone has brought peace to my heart. May you all, also, find your peace. I love you all!!!

To Gary, Larry and Randy,
Sorry to hear of your loss. Your dad was very generous and knew how to have a great time. The fun times that he showed my family on our visit to California before our move out West made this big change in our lives not as much of a shock. He acted as our friendly "Ambassador" to California. I'll always remember the crazy Dune Buggy trip to San Felipe with your Family, trips to Mexicali for tacos, Tiajuana Jai Ali and Horse Races, etc. These were all new and exciting experiences for a family from Pennsylvania. His generosity, great laugh and humor, I am sure, will be missed by many.

Randy, Margie & Clarrisa,
Our deepest sympathy to all of you for the loss of a wonderful father and companion.
We had the pleasure of getting to know your Dad and all of you on the wedding cruise. We had been told for many years what a wonderful man Dan was and how much he enjoyed life and his "boys". After meeting him we understood why...he was a very caring, humble, and happy person and his family was very important to him!
God Bless all of you!

To Gary, Larry and Randy and all extended family and friends, I want to offer my sympathy at Dan's passing too, but also gratitude for the time that we had him and all the joy and happiness he brought to so many. I just came from the viewing where I saw all the beautiful flowers and the family, friends and loved ones who were paying their respects and I thought what a wealthy man Dan Robinson truly was, not just in material things, but in the many, many lives that he touched. How he would have smiled. . . well, he probably is, isn't he?
Since I first met him and Jean at my home in Penn Hills, PA about 35 years ago, he's always been humorous, generous, helpful and above all, so proud of his boys!
My girls, Denise, Theresa & Kim and I will miss him.

Dearest Nephews & Nieces,
We send you all our deepest love & prayers in your loss of a wonderful father & grandfather. We have so many fond memories of our times together. He lived life to the fullest, and never forgot his old friends or his meager beginnings. A business man, always taking care of his loyal customers, always in search of his next BIG business venture. But he missed his calling as a comedian-noone could tell a joke or deliver a punch line like Dan. My favorite was "washy, washy, rinsey rinsey rinsey" and I can see his twisted face now as he tells it.
We have so many fond memories of our times together,San Felipe, Vegas,Laughlin,Delmar,Hawaii, the Bahamas etc.etc. Although we were at opposite ends of the country,we managed to remain so very close to you all, then and even moreso now.
But his greatest love was "MY BOYS" You were his greatest pride!! He really fought a hard battle this last stand, survived the dreaded month of NOVEMBER only to answer his devoted wife Jean's call home on their 49th Anniversary. What a fitting end!You ALL have two angels in heaven watching over you now. And Jean is so happy to have your dad at her side again. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! We love you all.

Clarissa, Randy and Margie,
Though we only met on the Wedding Cruise, we fondly remember Dan always laughing and eating. We also had the pleasure to be in his and Clarissa's company at one of the Schick's summer picnics, and again, he was always laughing and eating. We will miss him and think about him often while watching "Stiller" football.
You have our sympathy.

Dear Cousins Gary, Larry, Randy and families,
Words cannot express the sadness we felt upon hearing of the passing of Uncle Dan. He was larger than life--ever smiling, wide eyed, cool and just plain fun to be with. He had a wonderful capacity to tell interesting stories that made us laugh and smile. He will surely be missed by many.
Your extended family in PA offers our deepest sympathy. We are sorry we are unable to be there but please know our love, thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We take comfort in knowing that Uncle Dan is at peace in heaven with our beloved Aunt Jean.
Although a most successful businessman, Uncle Dan's top priority was always support and love of family. Stay strong and keep together and always remember how proud Uncle Dan was of you--his family.
God bless you. Love,
Kathy, John, Erik and Alex

Robinson Family,
Our deepest sympathy extends to all of you. Although I have not seen Uncle Dan in a number of years, I have thought of him and Aunt Jean often. I always enjoyed it when they came back to PA to visit. They were always kind and generous when I came out to visit them. One of my fondest memories was when Uncle Dan took us to the Sands Hotel to see Red Skelton at a dinner show. I was only 11 years old, but I will never forget that night. Kathy and I were really honored that Uncle Dan and Aunt Jean made the trip from Californnia to Southern Maryland for our wedding in 1991. Uncle Dan always made me laugh, and I will always remember him with a smile on my face.

it is sad to see calexico losing such a strong supporter and astute businessman. i enjoyed many lunches with dan and the boys talking sports and eating in restaurants that dont exist any more. he was a important part of calexico history and he will be missed. he made many contributions to calexico athletics that should not be forgotten such as friday night running the chain markers for many coaches. he may have been from penslyvania but he will always be a bulldog

Gary, Larry, Randy, Clarissa and families:
Our deepest sympathy to you and the children. Dan was a wonderful brother-in-law, and will be sadly missed. We have a lot of wonderful memories of his trips back home to Pa. with my sister Jean and you kids. Dan was always full of jokes and a great person to be around. Dan loved to eat at certain places back here in Pa. with all of us. He loved the big gatherings we always had when he came back..(he just loved to eat). All of these memories will be cherished forever, especially the latest being the wedding/cruise. It made the event even more special that Dan, along with Clarrissa, Randy and Margie could be there to share it with us. These memories of Dan will always be with us. We are so sorry that we can not be there for all of you now, but our prayers are with you. Sunday when the Steelers play the Super Bowl, Dan will be here with us in our hearts. I know Jean is happy now that he is with her in heaven. Thank you Clarrissa for all you have done for Dan. Even though distance separates us, our thoughts are always with you.
Love you all, Aunt Shirl and Uncle John
