Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Don Barioni, Sr. of La Jolla passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in his home. He was 85 years old.

Don was born February 29, 1936 in El Centro to Vic and Georgia Barioni (the grandson of a pioneer family) and lived his life in Imperial and La Jolla. He was a proud graduate of Imperial High School and Cal Poly Pomona, and enjoyed participating in the planning and preparation of reunions. Recently he was recognized by Cal Poly Pomona for his accomplishments in agribusiness and support and employment of students.

In 1958, he married Fern McConnell of El Centro and they made their home in Imperial. Don started is life long career and love of agriculture with Ortho Chemical of Chevron upon graduation from Cal Poly. He was then hired by Inter-Harvest of United Fruit as one of their Managers. Through the years he owned and operated numerous businesses which he was involved in daily until his passing. He was well known in the community and was a respected farmer who mentored many in the agricultural industry.

Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Fern of La Jolla, his son, Don Jr and daughter-in-law, Angela of El Centro; granddaughters, Erica Barioni-Amos (Matt) of San Diego, Jenny Barioni of Santa Cruz and Grace Barioni of San Diego; great grandchildren, Evan and Giada Barioni-Amos of San Diego. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Smith of Imperial.

Don was preceded in death by his son, Darin Rick (Ricky) Barioni.

Graveside services will be officiated by Pastor Walter Colace, a longtime family friend at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 2 p.m.

My condolences and prayers go out to the family of Don. I had the priveledge to meet and work with him years ago and he is one of the kindest people I have come across. I am so sorry for your loss, he will forever be remembered by so many of us. God Bless.

Will be sad to remember that Don is no longer around. Had some good times in high school and after, and worked hard together on our class of 54 reunions. My condolences to the family. He will be missed.

I worked with Don at Inter Harvest. We were both from El Centro but working in Salinas. He was such a kind person. I'm so sorry for your loss. He is gone too soon.

Condolences to Don's family. I met Don in the early 60's when he worked in HOLTVILLE. He was such a happy friendly man. Sorry I had no opportunity to visit with him in many years and missed him and Fern. God bless you.
