Jo Ann Ellen Weissman, 90, of Imperial, CA, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024. Jo Ann was born on September 24, 1933, in Crescent City, CA. Jo Ann graduated from Central Union High School in El Centro in 1952.
Jo Ann met and married Ernest Ellis, and they went on to have two children, Ellen, and John. Jo Ann and Ernest raised their family in Holtville, CA, and later moved to El Centro, CA. After the children were grown, Jo Ann and Ernest divorced. Jo Ann found a second chance at love when she met and married Harry Weissman. Jo Ann and Harry remained married until his death in 2013.
Jo Ann began her career journey working as a teachers aide at Finley Elementary School in Holtville, CA, and later as a librarian for Holtville High School. Jo Ann went on to work in the Imperial Valley College Library as a librarian until she retired in about 1985. Jo Ann then became a union representative for California School Employees Association (CSEA). Jo Ann's tenacious, never take no for an answer, made her a perfect fit for the job. She retired in 1994. In retirement, Jo Ann volunteered her time supporting various charities, as she enjoyed making a positive impact in the community.
Jo Ann loved entertaining family and friends in her home. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and traveling. Jo Ann was a member of Valley Christian Church in Imperial, CA. She served as the Sunday greeter and was a big supporter of the church's children and youth ministries.
Jo Ann is survived by her son, John Ellis (Valerie); grandsons, Daniel Ellis (Tommi), Michael Ellis (Ashmore), and Cameron Campbell (Margo); 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Weissman; mother, Anita Easley; sister, Beverly Case; brother, William Colver; daughter, Ellen Campbell; and granddaughter, Heather Campbell.
Services will be held on May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Valley Christian Church, 431 W. Wall Rd, Imperial.

To this very day Jo Ann is a very real part of my daily life. I use a quilt she made for me on a daily basis. I can´t wait to see you in heaven Jo Ann. I love goes out to Camron and Margo .

My deepest condolences to your family. Joann became a friendly face to the girls at the el centro city hall. Joann had a kind spirit and a contagious laughter. We usually crossed paths at the post office after she finally decided to enjoy her retirement .RIP dear friend.

My sweet Aunt Jo Ann,
You were dearly loved and we remember you as a women with a loving, caring generous heart.
You were the Rock of our family and always there for us.
You made Easter and the Holidays extra special and fun.
The last of the Mohicans so she said many times over the years. You have moved on to be with our Lord and many loved ones in Heaven.
You are a bright star shining down on us and saying I am at peace and happy.

Harry and Jo Ann Weissman were dear and special friends of our family for many years. We enjoyed their love, words of wisdom, and hospitality, especially during family dinners, holidays, and travels. Tim was Harry's best man at his wedding to Jo Ann. They were very much in love and happy together. When Harry passed in 2013, Jo Ann missed him terribly but honored his life daily by being active in community service. Jo Ann will be missed but we take comfort that she is together with Harry. Love you, JoJo!!
