JOHN HOLDER Obituary

JOHN HOLDER

Nov. 5, 1947 – Feb. 20, 2025

John Patrick Holder, 77, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at his home in Brawley, California, with his beloved wife by his side. Born on November 5, 1947, in Kalispell, Montana, John's life was a testament to dedication, service, and an unwavering sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.

John spent his early years working alongside his father in the family's logging business before answering the call to serve his country. On April 21, 1965, he enlisted in the United States Navy, embarking on a distinguished 22-year career as a radioman. His service took him across the world to Guam, Japan, and San Diego, where he played an essential role in military communications. After retiring from the Navy on April 30, 1987, John pursued a career in retail management before finding his true calling with the California Department of Corrections. He reported to the academy on his 47th birthday, November 5, 1994, and went on to serve for 19 years in various roles, including Investigations Officer and Acting Sergeant. He concluded his career at McCain Valley Fire Conservation Camp in Boulevard, California, working alongside the California Department of Forestry.

Beyond his professional life, John embraced life's joys with enthusiasm. He cherished attending sporting events, movies, plays, concerts, and bowling outings with his devoted wife, Michele. A passionate sports fan, he cheered for the Raiders and Warriors and enjoyed watching boxing matches. Music brought him happiness he often played guitar and made up songs that filled those around him with laughter. His quick wit and warm nature made every encounter feel like meeting an old friend.

John is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Michele; brother, Timothy Holder (Kathy) of Billings, Montana; children, Sakura (David), Tsuyoshi, Rika, and Mika; four grandchildren; and his faithful dog Nugget. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elliot Franklin Holder and Maryann Holder; son, Ryuji Holder; and his brothers, Walter and James Holder.

John's legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and humor a light that will continue to shine through the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
