Marie LaBrucherie Obituary

MARIE KNUDSEN LABRUCHERIE

Jan 9, 1917 - Nov. 22, 2007

Marie Knudsen LaBrucherie, a long-time resident of the Imperial Valley, died of complications of arthritis and Alzheimer's disease on November 22, 2007, at the age of 90. Mrs. LaBrucherie was born in Salt Lake City in 1917, and in 1919 moved with her parents, Andrew and Lilah Knudsen, and her older brother Norman, to Calexico, where her father started a small tailoring business. The family made the trip in their Model T Ford, camping in a tent they would set up beside the car during the journey. Her younger brother Robert and younger sister Lila were born in Calexico, where Marie graduated from Calexico High School in 1935.
The family then moved to El Centro, where Marie met her future husband, Pete LaBrucherie, while attending Imperial Valley Junior College. The couple married in 1938, and moved to a farm house near the Dahlia Canal heading in the McCabe District, where her husband farmed, and their three children, Edward, Roger, and Ella, attended McCabe School before going on to Central Union High. Following her husband's early death in 1960, Marie and her children moved to El Centro, where Marie lived for the next 27 years, before moving to Pine Valley in east San Diego County. Due to her debilitating illnesses, Mrs. LaBrucherie resided at Cloisters of Mission Hills in San Diego during the last years of her life.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. LaBrucherie was a member of the Women's 10,000 Club and an active volunteer in the McCabe School PTA, the El Centro Community Hospital, and the Episcopal Church, and in later life was greatly fond of her dogs.
Mrs. LaBrucherie is survived by her three children, daughter-in-law Shirley (Mrs. Edward) LaBrucherie, grandchildren Leslie, John, Pete, and Andrew, and her younger sister Lila (Mrs. Art) Morgan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, November 30th, at Saints Peter and Paul Episcopal Church in El Centro (at the corner of 5th & Orange Streets), with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association (584 W. Main St., El Centro, CA 92243).

I will always have wonderful memories of my good friend's mother sweet Marie--memories that recall a somewhat simpler time perhaps. I wish I could be there on Friday. Know that my heart and spirit join with family and friends in sympathy. Love to Ella, Roger and Edward

Marie always made me feel welcome in her home, I considered her one of my grandmas. I have many great memories of our time together during my childhood. From eating peas to her taking care of me when I was sick. I will be out of town on Friday, but would like to extend my love to the family.

My Dear Friends, I am so sorry to hear of Marie's passing. I'll always remember how wonderful she was to me and my children.
I go by the old house requently with my grandson's (Thacker 22 months and Oliver 3 months) on a stroll, and it brings back fond memories. I know you have many too.
So very sorry. Hope I can get off work for the service, if I can't, know that I am there in spirit.

Loving Thoughts,

Ed, Roger & Ella...I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing, I
remember her well growing up with you guys in El Centro and riding horses across the street from your home. I will never forget the day your Dad passed away either. It was a Sunday and it was the first time I ever saw my father cry. My thoughts are with you all.
