MARION DELL
ROSENBAUM
"MAMA ROSIE"
Dec. 24, 1927 - Aug. 23, 2007
Marion Rosenbaum of El Centro died on August 23, 2007 in El Cajon at the age of 79 following a lengthy illness.
Born to Forest and Della Zinn on December 24, 1927 in El Centro, she was the youngest of 5 children and lived her entire life in El Centro. Marion married W.J. (Bill/Rosie) Rosenbaum in Redlands on August 16, 1946. Bill preceded her in death in 2003 after 56 years of marriage. Marion loved being surrounded by her family and was lovingly known as Mama Rosie to her children. Marion's family continued to grow throughout her lifetime, adding "adopted" children right up to her death, who also called her Mama Rosie. Many of them were with her and the family during her last days. As her children were growing up some of their friends lived with Bill and Marion and there were always extras at dinnertime. Children always felt loved and accepted in her home no matter what their circumstances.
Marion was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in El Centro for many years and served in many capacities as well as Unit President of Post 25, District President, several chairmanships over the years of which her favorites were Girls State, Americanism and Poppy Sales Chairman. While her children were young, Marion ran a day care, worked as a crossing guard and yard duty supervisor. After all her children were in school, she worked as a Transcriber for Imperial County Superintendent of Schools Visually Handicapped. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, needlepoint and was an avid reader. In her later years she enjoyed spending time in her Jacumba home.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro.
Marion is survived by her children, Leslie Rosenbaum (Andi Ruhr) of Seeley, Rilla (Frank) Zaccone of Forest Grove, Oregon, Nancy (Allan) Carroll of Mariposa, Kittie Robertson (Henry Salisbury) of Sherman, Texas, Iris (Mark) Stoner of Mariposa and Dana (Jack) Hettinger of El Centro; as well as grandchildren Colleen Furemsky, Raymond Rosenbaum, Corina Patz, Robert Carroll, Stepheni Foster, Shawna Jaramillo, Chris Hedger, Brandy Halprin, Audrie Abernathy, Amanda Robertson, Mandy Richardson, Justin, Jessie and Jeremiah Stoner and Rebel Ruhr; and 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Evelyn Zinn, and Frank and June Rosenbaum; brother-in-law, Robert Rosenbaum; sisters-in-law, Nita Zinn and Virginia Rosenbaum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, 569 Broadway, El Centro, CA 92243.
