Pedro G. Carrillo, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the age of 90 surrounded by his loving family after living with Alzheimer's for many years.
Pedro was born in Mexicali, Baja California in 1931. He was one of ten children born to Maria de Los Angeles Guajardo and Cipriano Carrillo. One of the original braceros hired to work in the United States through the federal program in the 1950's, Pedro was a farm laborer the majority of his life. He married Maria Gloria Saenz in Sonora, Mexico in 1967. They briefly lived in Mexicali before moving to Los Angeles where the couple resided for a few years while he gained experience in the construction field. Pedro and Gloria had four daughters. In 1974 Pedro gained employment with D'Arrigo Brothers in Imperial County and the family moved to Brawley where they made their permanent residence. Pedro worked for D'Arrigo Brothers for close to thirty years and lived through the labor rights movement of the farmworkers of the 1960's and 70's. He became an expert field laborer, specializing in seed planting and driving tractors. His nieces and nephews knew him as Tio Pete. Pedro enjoyed spending time fishing, grilling and with his family in Mexicali. His favorite pastime was baseball and was a huge Dodgers fan. His priority was always his family and raising his four daughters. He is remembered for his sense of humor, possessing a strong work ethic, being responsible and for being a pillar in his family.
Pedro is survived by his spouse, Maria Gloria of Brawley and daughters, Maria Guadalupe (George Martinez), Yolanda (Francisco Barbosa), Maria Laura (Rene Peinado) and Sonia (Henry Colchado) and grandchildren, George, Francisco Jr., Mariano Sebastian, Angelica, Gabriella Celeste, Katia Lucia and Andres as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
