RANDALL CARSON Obituary

RANDALL JAY
CARSON

July 11, 1963 - Feb. 7, 2012

Randy was born in El Centro to Arville 'Bud' and Marian Jackson Carson.
Randy was a brilliant and extremely gifted individual. He was most passionate about helping youths challenged in the education system. As a youth himself he was selected to be in the first GATE program at Wilson Jr. High in 1976. He graduated valedictorian of his 1981 Central Union High School Class and valedictorian with highest honors of The College of Letters and Sciences at UC Santa Barbara with a degree in History and Anthropology.
Randy was a teacher, a minister of the Religious Science Church, a member of the California Free Mason's Imperial Lodge #390, a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, drama coach, tutor, and a mentor as well as being involved in so much more. He served on many boards and committees including the Grand Jury, the Imperial Valley Arts Council and the Imperial Valley College Desert Museum.
He directed and acted in countless plays and other productions in Imperial County.
Randy had a passion for genealogy which started when he was eleven and continued until the day he died. He loved history, the arts, genealogy, science, the Imperial Valley and exploring the historical sights of the desert and elsewhere.
Randy is survived by his mother, Marian Jackson Carson; his brother, Clyde Carson (Leticia Barros-Carson); his sisters, Jeannie Carson Franks, Deanna Pemberton, Jolene Dessert (Matt) and his beloved nieces, nephews, students, and many friends.
Randy inspired many by his willingness to help, support, and to teach others. He was selfless with his personal finances to others and their endeavors. He had an incredible gift and will be missed.
A celebration of Randy's life will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the I.V. Center for Religious Science at 607 Desert Gardens Drive in El Centro.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Imperial Valley College Desert Museum Society, P.O. Box 2455, El Centro CA 92244.

" The real secret of life: to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play."
Randy every memory I have of you is at play. You worked hard at the play, and showed me how to laugh at myself. I remember the Aztec Dancers, the costume designs, the mural painting, the organic gardens, the food creations, but most of all the children with the looks of amazement because you got them to see the world in a new way. I will miss you. Everyday.

You were my 8th grade teacher back in 94' @ Holtville Middle School, and yet I have no trouble remembering your name when I look back as I do with all my other past teachers. You helped me when I was failing & I didn't care, you gave me your trust & gave me a chance to be proud of myself...gave my parents a reason to be proud of me. You looked beyond what & who I was on the outside & saw something no one else did. I carried that with me throughout my life...when I was down & felt like a failure I looked back to when I was in your class & I would see it in your eyes that I was worth more. Thank you for being there & helping me see I was good enough.
When I found out that you had passed it hurt really bad, I cried & couldn't control myself or hardly breath :'( You will be forever missed Mr. Carson, I wish I could've had one more chance to have a talk with you...to tell you how well i'm doing...I wish my children could've had you for a class & see what you had to teach them! You were special in that way, you made it fun & interesting. You were an intense person & I will forever miss you! Thank you for being in my life & teaching me I am worth a lot!
R.I.P. Mr. Randy Carson

Randy was simply an extraordinary man. Nowadays, we tend to debase superlatives, which is unfortunate when the time comes to describe someone like Randy. I have never before known, and I doubt that I will ever meet anyone more committed to living life to the fullest. Randy always put himself completely behind any cause or project, particularly if the goal of the effort was to help young people. He sometimes pushed himself too far, but that was to be expected, for he had the heart of a lion in the body of an emaciated human being. He made it a point of honor to not only wring every bit of life out of every second that he had in this world, but also to impart that philosophy to many students that he taught. His teaching was not limited to the younger set; many people, although chronologically older than he was, learned a great deal about life from Mr. Carson. He is someone whose loss can truly be said, left this world a poorer place. It is one of the singular pleasures of my life that I got to know him. To those who were his close friends and family, your loss is almost inconceivable. All that I can do is to hope that Randy's spirit will carry you through.

To the Carson Family...May the veil of grief lift quickly so that only the precious of memories remain.

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our life through.
God hath not promised that we shall not know,
Toils and temptation, trouble and woe.
He hath not told us that we shall not bear,
Many a burden, many a care.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide.
Never a mountain, rocky and steep,
Never a river, turbid and deep.
But God hath promised strenth for the day,
Rest for the laborer, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,undying love,

Rest in Peace Randy

Randy, you were a wonderful and selfless teacher and mentor. You always coached and led us to perfect ourselves, and showed us that opportunity is everywhere.

I was honored as a senior at BUHS when you allowed me and other high school students to participate in a college play, and then took us on as IVC students after that.

Even beyond theater, you facilitated opportunity at every turn. I wish I could have spent more time with you in future days, and the vagaries of life are life is unyielding. You were a good and kind person, and wherever you are I hope that you know that you were a good and kind person to help and guide so many, no matter what they had.

I'll never forget when you took us to San Diego and I ate sushi for the first time, or when we took you to the midnight premiere showing of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, or any of our other wonderful encounters. You will be greatly missed.

There was only one Randy Carson. No one else in the world quite like Randy. Funny, kind of quiet - until you got to know him, good listener, wise and yet childlike. I'll never forget the many walks around the football field talking about little things one minute, religion, politics and solving the world's problems the next minute. Randy was sweet, engaging, reserved and yet passionate about people and causes. I will miss his spirit. Rest well, my friend.

Randy Carson was one of the best and brightest to come out of the Imperial Valley and luckily for the Valley, he chose to return and serve that community in a variety of ways.

My condolences to the Carson family, whose house on Oleander was a home away from home for me when I lived in El Centro. I remember meeting Randy when I was 13 and would receive correspondence from him up until very recently on all he was involved in (especially his work in theater).

Randy battled health issues for a lot of his life and that never slowed him down, much less stopped him. He was indefatigable and the size of his mind, his soul and the breadth of his knowledge was astounding. Now at last, he rests. Take care, Randy!!!!

YOU WERE GOD TO MY SATAN, OBERON TO MY PUCK, AND FELIX TO MY NED. YOU WERE MY BIGGEST FAN AND MY HARSHEST CRITIC. YOU CATAPULTED ME TO MY HIGHEST HIGHS AND PULLED ME OUT OF MY LOWEST LOWS. YOU INFLUENCED EVERYTHING THAT IS POSITIVE ABOUT MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE THAT I LOVE THE MOST. I DO NOT GRIEVE FOR OUR LOSS TODAY BUT CELEBRATE THE MOMENT THAT OUR PATHS CROSSED. RUN TO THE SUN MY FRIEND. THE NORMAL HEART FOREVER BEATS FOR YOU.

I met Randy in '76 when he was a bright but quiet teen. He maintained contact with me throughout his talented adult years. I marveled at his accomplishments and the many facets of his personality and gifts. I will miss him always. I think all who knew him will grieve. The vast desert sands of Imperial Valley will seem more empty now without his presence.
