RAYMOND A. SUAREZ

1928 - 2016

Raymond Suarez, 88, died peacefully athome on September 26, 2016. He was born in Brawley to Salvador Suarez and Senovia Arteaga. At age 6 the Great Depression and the death of his father brought severe hardship to his childhood. At age 10 his mother tragically succumbed to illness. Despite the great loss he suffered at a young age age he determined to rise above adversity. Raymonds's commitment to family was the cornerstone of his strong work ethic. At age 14 he left school to work full time. He worked for many years as a supervising foreman and retired from Imperial Irrigation District Landscape Dept. He married his beloved Margarita Magana Hurtado and together they raised 11 children. For years he worshipped St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church where he especially enjoyed the music service. He was a practical man who will be remembered for his great story telling, humorous wit and cherishing time spent with family. He is survived by his wife, Margarita; sons, Salvador Gonzalez of Brawley, Enrique of West Hills, CA, Lorenzo of Brawely, John of Pomona, CA, Frank of Pomona, CA; daughters, Olivia of San Bernardino, CA, Elvira of Highland, CA, Margaret of Brawley, Sara of El Centro, Olga of Paso Robles, CA; 28 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sister, Reymunda Figueroa of Brawley and numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Rosary being said at 10:15 a.m. and service starting at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Bernardo Lara. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.
