Faye Yates Obituary
Funeral services for Faye Yates, age 81, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 at West Jackson Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Clark and Rev. Merlyn Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
Faye passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, July 22, 2011 at Maplewood Healthcare. She was born October 1, 1929 in Pelham, Alabama, where she was educated in the system there.
Faye and Wilburn met in Mason Hall, TN in June 1947 and were married August 10, 1947. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on August 10th of this year. They were blessed with two children, Rhonda Faye Dyer and Mark Russell Yates both of Jackson.
Faye and Wilburn entered the Real Estate business in May of 1972, working side by side for 29 years with Faye doing mostly office work. She worked for Kisber's in the 1960s. One of her greatest enjoyments was cooking for her family and having them all together. She was a long time member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was most recently a member of West Jackson Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Martis Shirley and Ruby Oldham Shirley; brother, Martis Shirley; sister, Orene Shirley Bryant, all of Pelham, AL.
She is survived by her husband, Wilburn Yates; one daughter, Rhonda Faye Dyer (Jim); one son, Mark Russell Yates (Ramona); four grandchildren, Drew Yates (Allison), Katherine Webb (Doug) all of Jackson, TN, Claire Mitchell (Phillip) of Lakeland, TN and Dr. Russell Dyer of Collierville, TN; two great grandchildren, Chloe Webb and Tanner Webb of Jackson, TN; four sisters of Alabama.
Grandsons serving as Pallbearers will be Russell Dyer, Drew Yates, Doug Webb and Phillip Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buford Matlock, Ray Bean, Billy Alred, Bart Swift, Dick Goddard and Jim Hollowell. The Alred Sunday School Class and the Wednesday morning Old Country Store Bible Study Group are asked to sit as a group.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. at Arrington Funeral Directors.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to West Jackson Baptist Church Music Ministry, 580 Oil Well Road, Jackson, TN 38305.

I will always remember that wonderful pimento cheese that she made. She was such a nice, gracious, godly woman and she will always be missed by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

I'm sooooo very sorry for your loss. My Mom had told me that she was in very bad shape. I had been praying for her and y'all and will contine to pray for your family. May God give you peace and comfort to get through this terrable time. I know how you are feeling because my Dad died in 1990. God bless you all. I will try to come to the visitation. I'm not sure if I can make it because I have to walk with a cane and can't walk far or stand long. Try to celebrate her great life ...That's what she would probably want you to do that.
