Virginia Roberts Obituary

Virginia Cummings Roberts

Memphis - Virginia Cummings Roberts,78, died peacefully Sunday, January 7, 2018 just 8 days shy of her 79th birthday, at her daughter's home with her family by her side. Granna, as everyone knew and loved her, was ready to be with the Lord and talked about it with great anticipation.

She was predeceased by her father, Thomas Edgar Cummings, mother, Virgie Lorraine Cummings, husband Stanley Charles Roberts, and siblings Anne Cummings Sledd, June Cummings Crowley, Sara Cummings Foster and Hal Cummings.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Leigh Anne (Sean) Tuohy of Memphis, TN and son Stanford Roberts of Memphis, TN and grandchildren, Collins (Cannon) Tuohy Smith, Michael Oher, Sean Tuohy Jr, Bradford Roberts and Wade Roberts and one great grandchild, MJ Oher.

Virginia was born in Jackson, TN where she lived for 23 years. She graduated from North Side High School where she starred as a basketball player. She moved to Memphis in 1962 and has lived here since that time. Virginia was a successful interior designer in partnership with her daughter, Leigh Anne. She co-owned Flair I Interiors for 39 years and was a member of ASID, a professional interior design organization. Virginia participated in many designer home show events supporting local charities. Her clients ranged from Elvis to the next-door neighbor that needed paint advice. Virginia is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority at The University of Memphis and was initiated when the chapter was installed.

Virginia loved to travel. Destin, Florida was her favorite destination but there were countless trips with her Grandparent's group. If Granna did it, she did it big! She liked all things bling and bedazzled and leopard was her favorite color. Her Carmel cakes were legendary and she has been known to cook 25 pancakes at a time for her grandkids and their friends. Most importantly she never met a stranger and believed all people deserved a chance. Her smile was infectious and she loved unconditionally.

Virginia was very strong in her faith. She made sure to tell you about her daily bible reading and her Billy Graham devotion. She read both books cover to cover for the last 19 years. She lived by the motto "Don't talk about it. Live it." She and her family were longstanding members of Central Church, and were founding members of Grace Evangelical Church in Germantown, TN.

A memorial service celebrating Virginia's life will be held at Grace Evangelical Church, 9750 Wolf River Boulevard, in Germantown, TN, on Thursday, January 11, 2018. The family will be mingling with friends and family between 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock. The worship service will start promptly at 5:00 PM. There will be a private family burial.

Virginia was like a second mother to me through my high school years. She had a huge heart and would do anything for anybody. Lord knows that Stanford and I tested her Patience, yet she was always there for us. May God Bless her and keep her close. Thinking of and Praying for the entire family.

This wonderful lady was part of my life from a young age. I learned so much from her and have so many sweet fun memories. I will remember her most for her big big heart and the love she gave everyone freely. She lived her faith and I know her mansion in heaven is perfectly decorated just for her. Love you Virginia Lorraine and I will forever be grateful you were in my life. Love. Donna Ruth
