Barbara Erwin, 68

Barbara Erwin, 68, died on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette, Indiana. Born to the late Robert Isaac and Opal Lucielle (Best) Barron, Sr., on August 5, 1947 in Fountain County, Indiana. Barbara married Robert E. Erwin on November 10, 1962 in Lafayette, Indiana.

After graduating from Attica schools, Barbara later went on to Purdue and received her Bachelors degree in 1998. Barbara was a cook in several sororities and fraternities at Purdue University and Indiana University. Barbara enjoyed playing bingo, euchre, and Yahtzee. She really enjoyed Gospel music and reading or having her bible read to her. She also enjoyed spending time with all her children and grandchildren. She had a way of making each one feel like they were #1. She was a devoted mother and wife. She would always put them ahead of herself. When her children were younger, she would make a lot of their food. Holidays were of many homemade items. She taught each and everyone one of them how to be independent and although they can never cook as good as her, she passed down her cooking skills.

Barbara was diagnosed in March of 2016 with terminal cancer. Her children all came together to give her the best care they could. We couldn't have gotten a better mother if we wanted. She will never ever be forgotten.

In addition to her husband, Robert, Barbara is survived by her five children: Doris Lucille (husband: Dave) Daugherty, Robert Eugene Erwin Jr., Janet Lynn Turner, John Allen (wife: Mary) Erwin, and Sarah Jane Erwin. Barbara is also survived by four siblings: Ikie Lee Barron, Sally Bonnet, Gloria Russell, and Debra Kay Stingly. 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive Barbara.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Henry Barron.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Hippensteel Funeral Home with an hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
