Charles Dale Clawson

Attica - Charles Dale Clawson, 92, Attica, passed away in the Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation Center, on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 9:36 a.m.

Dale, as he was known to family and friends, was born in his parents' home in Attica, on November 7, 1928. He was the son of the late Arthur Harley "Dutch" and Lorena M. (Wilson) Clawson. He was raised in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1946. After high school Dale worked at Harrison Steel in Attica as a draftsman from 1946-1952.

Dale married Betty Marie Jaynes on June 12, 1949 in the Williamsport Presbyterian Church. Betty preceded him in death on November 6, 2010.

In 1952 Dale entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in California. He served in the Beach Jumper Unit, a precursor to the Navy Seals, and also attended electronic technician school. In 1956 he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and, along with his wife, Betty, moved to Fort Wayne, IN. While living in Fort Wayne, he attended Indiana Institute of Technology and in 1959 graduated with a B.S. degree in electronic engineering. After college he and Betty moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL, where he taught electronics at Eglin Air Force Base.

In 1960, while traveling back through his hometown of Attica, he was contacted by Joseph Riley at Radio Material Corp. and was offered a job with RMC in Attica. He accepted and worked there as head of the electronics department from 1960 until his retirement in 2001.

Dale was an active member of the Attica-Williamsport Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where, over the years, he served as a Trustee, Elder and Deacon. While in high school he received his pilots license and was later a member of the Attica Flying Club. For many years he served as treasurer for the Fountain County Historical Society. He was instrumental in forming the Attica Community Foundation and served as its first president. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 52 of Attica.

Dale leaves behind a daughter, Lisa (Larry) Pierce, Carmel, IN; three step grandchildren and their families; six nieces and one nephew and their families; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jaynes, Lafayette; his foster sons, Sakhon Yenh and Sawong Va and their families. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur H. Clawson, Jr. and a brother-in-law, Bill F. Jaynes.
