David R. Gurley

David R. Gurley, 59, of Lafayette, passed away at his home, Saturday, November 21, 2015, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gurley and mother, Janice Doughty Dickson. Dave is survived by his wife, Teri Gurley and his children, Stephanie Wilkerson and Joshua Gurley, both of Lafayette, Adam Steele of Columbia, MO, Heather (Kevin) Carafa of Portland, OR, Patrick (Heather) Steele of Valdosta, GA, Patricia Steele of St. Joseph, MO, and Elaine and Austin Borie both of Lafayette. Also surviving are 2 grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews, and 2 sisters, Virginia (Greg) Smith of West Lafayette, and Barbara (Alan) Campbell of Essex, IA.

Dave served in the US Air Force before starting his 30 year career as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service in Lafayette. During that time he also served as Union Secretary for the NALC 466 for 18 years. Dave volunteered with Civil Air Patrol and achieved the rank of Captain, and held a private pilot's license, and served as Financial Officer for the Friends of Lafayette Composite Squadron, was a member of Lafayette's HAZMAT Response Team and Tippecanoe County Emergency Management.

Dave was baptized into Christ in 2001 and has been an active member of Brady Lane Church of Christ since that time.

Dave asked that a Celebration of Life be held to give fellow letter carriers the opportunity to attend. Services will be on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Brady Lane Church (2701 Brady Ln., Lafayette, IN 47909). He also requested that memorial contributions be made to Brady Lane Church.
