Donald Kirby Obituary

Donald Lee Kirby

Donald Lee Kirby, 78, of Battle Ground, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 21, 2016 after losing his short battle with cancer. He was born in Altamont, IL and had resided in the Battle Ground area for 28 years. Donald spent 3 ½ years in the Navy and was retired from J&L Steel Company in East Chicago after working there for 40 years. His hobbies included fishing, watching and participating in racing, building race cars, time with family, and traveling. Donald was one of those guys who could fix almost anything and was always willing to help anyone that he could.

There will be a Celebration of Life service to honor Donald on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Battle Ground United Methodist Church, 201 Tipton Street, Battle Ground. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the Celebration at 2 p.m. His body has been donated for science research as that was his strong desire. We encourage casual attire as he was not a dress-up kind of guy and preferred his blue jeans or shorts.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four sons, Don (wife Trish) of Monticello, Ted (wife Paula) of Tennessee, Joe of Lafayette, and Marc of Ohio; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Hardesty of Battle Ground; and sisters, Edith Norwood of Buck Creek and Sallie Brown of Louisiana. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Battle Ground United Methodist Church or to Shriner's Hospitals for Children-Cincinnati (c/o Donor Development, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229). Envelopes will be available at the church. You may Light a Candle of Hope in remembrance of Donald and sign his online guestbook by visiting www.fisherfuneralchapel.com
