Frances Boots Obituary

Frances M. Boots

Frances Maxine (Peek) Boots, 95, passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 14, 2021. She was born May 20, 1925 to Myrtle Lutz and Albert Peek in Attica, Indiana.

Maxine is survived by her granddaughter, Dawn (husband, Ed) Geisler, Franklin, Indiana; her "shadow" and favorite grandson, Dustin (wife, Amy) Slinker, Anchorage, Alaska; and granddaughters Yvonne Slinker, Normal, Illinois; and Mary (husband David) Smith of Lafayette, Indiana. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren: twins Evan and Reid Geisler; Annabelle Slinker; and Wesley, Maribeth and Aaliyah Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Boots; sons Ronald Douglas Slinker and Donald L. Slinker; sister, Anna Peek Corker; and brothers Donald Peek, Homer Peek, Malcolm Peek, Robert Comer and Martin Comer.

Maxine married Wesley Boots in 1965 in Indianapolis. Together they owned and operated Wesley Boots Hearing Aid Service on Main Street in Lafayette. She had an earlier career as a hairdresser. Maxine was a longtime member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lafayette.

A real firecracker, Maxine was well-known in Lafayette for many years as "the Breadstick Lady" at Fazoli's on State Road 26. She brought joy to hundreds of guests with her lively personality and charm.

Maxine attributed her longevity to eating fresh fruit and vegetables and to not chasing wild men. She enjoyed having coffee with friends in the community she called home for more than 47 years: Village Square Apartments in Lafayette. In 1973, she was the second resident to move in, and she continued to live there independently at age 95.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Rest Haven Memorial Park at 1200 Sagamore Parkway in Lafayette.

Memorial contributions may be made in Frances Maxine Boots' name to Riley Children's Foundation at give.rileykids.org.

Condolences may be sent online to www.mausfuneralhome.com.

I did not know Frances or anyone from her side of the family, however I heard of her passing through my cousin Anita. It sounds like Frances had a fruitful life, and I hope those who were close to her find comfort in the memories.

I had the pleasure of living in the same building as Maxine for over ten years and she was such a joy to live near. She always had a smile and something sweet or funny to tell me when she would see me in the hall way or out around the apartment complex. Her joy and light-heartedness will be missed. I hope that the sweet memories she leaves behind will be a soothing balm unto the family members hearts as they go through this most difficult time.

Frannie Mack was a wonderful lady and a very very long time family friend. I'm very sad to see her go. Much love to Dawn and Dustin and the rest of the family
