James R. Liebert, 61

James R. "Jim" Liebert, 61, of 7377 W 100 N Delphi, died Sunday-Jan 1, 2012 at 12:05 a.m. at his residence. He had been diagnosed with ALS in June-2011. He was born Dec 2, 1950 in Lafayette, to the late Virgil C. Liebert, and his mother Ruth L. Greenup Liebert, who survives. His marriage was to Sandra S. Shaw in LaPorte, IN, on Aug 18, 1973, and she survives. He was a 1969 graduate of Delphi High School, and attended an electrical trade college in Grand Rapids, MI. He and his brother farmed their family farm in Carroll County, from 1980-1990, and worked for the former Loy Roofing Co.-Delphi, from 1977-1990. Then, he and his brother started Liebert Construction, building new homes, remodeling and additions, primarily in Carroll County, and the surrounding area, to present day. He regularly attended the ALS support group in West Lafayette, and walked a 2 mile walk in Sept. for an ALS fundraiser in Indianapolis. He enjoyed woodworking, arrow head hunting, mushroom hunting, was a true outdoorsman, and enjoyed NASCAR, especially driver Richard Petty.

 Surviving are his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Liebert of Delphi; two daughters, Sara Liebert (fiancé Tobe Leazenby) of Delphi and Liza Hayden (husband: Jeremy) of West Lafayette; mother, Ruth L. Liebert of Delphi; two sisters, Marge Franklin (husband: Johnny) of Delphi, and Susie McCormick of Battle Ground; a brother, David Liebert (wife: Teresa) of Delphi, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday-Jan 7, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home-Delphi. Private family committal of his ashes at a later date.
