Marion Ely, 97, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 at his residence in Mulberry, Indiana surrounded by his family.

Marion was born May 15, 1923 in Smith, Kentucky to the late Charles and Lilly Mae (Ledford) Ely. His marriage was to Nancy "Lucille" (Sargent) on December 24, 1945 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2005. Marion proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was part of C Company 300th Combat Battalion.

Professionally, Marion was in the Construction Industry and worked at WG Gentry for over 20 years. He was an extremely hardworking man and a great provider for his family.

Marion was a green thumb, enjoyed fishing, carpentry and Westerns. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his children, Nina (Gordon) Balser of Lafayette, Norma (Phillip) Pancake of Lafayette, Denny (Deborah) Ely of Cape Coral, Florida, and Donnie (Marlene) Ely of Mulberry, Indiana; sister; and eleven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by son, Ricky Ely; and four brothers, Oscar, Lonzo, Byrd and Billy Ely, sister Mary (Ernest) Daniels.

Visitation will take place Friday, February 12, 2021 from 5-8pm at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service will be Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11am at the funeral home with Reverend Dennis Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry. Current Covid-19 precautions will be observed along with social distancing and current government attendance guidelines. Masks are required. A live webcast of the funeral service will be available on our website. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Montmorenci Baptist Church.
