Mark Davis Obituary

Mark S. Davis

Mark S. Davis, 63, of West Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indianapolis.

He was born on September 9, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri.  He graduated from West Lafayette H.S. and earned a law degree from IU.  He began his career working in economic development in Indianapolis, Greater Lafayette, and Flint, Michigan before finally opening an independent law practice in Lafayette.  His career highlights include helping to bring the Subaru plant to Lafayette, working on agreements with U.S. and Canada on the Blue Water Bridge that spans our two countries, and helping promote the Hoosier Heartland highway.

He enjoyed reading spy/military novels, jazz music, singing in the church choir and visiting grandchildren.  He was active in the Republican Party locally, and enjoyed verbal spars with people on a variety of topics.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Betty Davis, sister Rae, and brother Craig.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay, daughters Kristen (Edmundson), Nina (Sonnenberg), Catherine (Raquet), and Anna Davis, and eight grandchildren.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4-8 pm, Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Hippensteel Funeral Home.  Memorial Mass will be at 10 am, Friday, March 10, 2017 at Church of the Blessed Sacrament.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the West Lafayette Public Library Foundation (http://www.wlaf.lib.in.us).  Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com

We just recently learned of Mark's passing through Mary Kay's holiday letter. Mark was a great guy and an inspiration to me. We worked together when he headed up GLPC, and he counseled me on my young business with advice I still remember and quote today. We moved away to Arizona 30 years ago, so that tells you how ingrained and deep my memories and admiration of Mark are.

We had the good fortune of being next door neighbors to the Davis's in the mid to late 1980's. Rather than SIA, our best memory is his devotion to his family. Almost thirty years later, we connected over dinner as if we had been apart for only a long weekend.
We are very sorry for your and our loss.
