Billy Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kilpatrick Funeral Home - West Monroe on Feb. 27, 2026.
Billy G. Davis was born in Wardville. Florida, on November 24, 1930, to Isaac Columbus Davis and Eadie Mae Driskell Davis. Billy was the 8th of eleven children. He passed away at his home in West Monroe, Louisiana, on February 26, 2026,surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Burson Davis, his step-daughter, Jennifer Borquist, his parents and eight of his siblings.

One word describes Bill Davis's life: service. He grew up working on his family's farm in Florida. Bill often said that by the time he was fifteen, he had lived through two major world events, both the Depression and World War II. Like his older brothers who had served in the war, Bill also felt a need to serve. In 1948, at 17 and with his Dad's permission, Bill joined the U. S. Air Force, where he eventually became a "ditty bopper,'' one who spent hours listening to Morse code and deciphering hostile communications. Bill's first teaching job was to teach code copying. He served in multiple locations in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after twenty-one years in the USAF Security Service.

Upon this retirement, he looked for another way to serve his community. He attended Northeast Louisiana University where he received a Master's degree in education. Bill then taught high school math at Ouachita High School for another twenty years. Bill was also an active member of the Shriners, serving in support of "The Legion of Honor" and the Barak Shrine Temple for twenty years in Monroe, Louisiana. When his first wife's health began to decline, Bill became less active, though he continued to participate in a part time capacity.

Bill, however, never retired from service to his family, friends, and neighbors. He was always willing to help anyone and enjoyed sharing the bounty of his large backyard garden with everyone. Bill's life exemplified the best lessons from his farm upbringing: hard work, integrity, respect for living things, and the need to serve his fellow man.

Bill is survived by his wife of seven years, Mary Sitton Davis; his son, John Davis and wife Kelly; and his two step-children, Janelle Brower and Nathan Wiens (wife Meghan). In addition, Bill had the love and respect of his eleven step-grandchildren: Riley, Miriam, Brandon, Abby, Mack, Tyler, Annabelle, Aubrey, Natalie, Graham, and Patrick.

Thank you, Bill, for your lifetime of service.
