Michael Gonzalez Obituary

Michael Anthony "Gonzo" Gonzalez

Rural Delphi - Michael Anthony "Gonzo" Gonzalez, 54, of rural Delphi, died Wednesday-Feb. 21, 2018, at 12:20pm, at his home, after a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer. He was born July 28, 1963 in Tampa, FL, to the late Louis Gonzalez, and his mother Darline Del Pino Melendreras, who survives. His marriage was to Beth A. Black in North Redington Beach, FL, on Aug 25, 2004, and she survives. He received his GED from Jefferson High School in Tampa, FL. He was a U.S. Army Ranger, also trained as a medic, stationed in South Korea. He formerly worked for Apria Healthcare in Lafayette, as a sales liaison for 4 years, then for the Indiana Veteran's Home, West Lafayette, in the business office, managing claims and other administrative work, for the past 2 years. He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, very involved with the men's ministry, ultimately leading it, sang in the praise team, and adult choir, and was active with the church's mobile food pantry. He also helped lead a worship service once a month at Carroll Manor Home. He then was called to be pastor at the Wheatland Ave. United Methodist Church, Logansport, the past year and a half. Gonzo's passion was to minister to any and all outside his church. God was his light, and he wanted to share that love with anyone, anywhere, anytime!! He truly loved the good Lord with all his heart and soul. He also enjoyed natural horsemanship training, leading many seminars, both local and abroad. He was a black belt in martial arts, and enjoyed teaching high risk youth his skills and discipline. He was a gourmet cook; loved to sing and play his guitar; an avid reader, who spoke four languages. He enjoyed acting, and starred in many training films, and had been an extra in a few TV shows. He recently completed his EMT training as sick as he was, but did, and helped others with training and testing. He also enjoyed 18th Century Historical Reenactments. He dearly loved his wife Beth, and all his family and many friends.

Surviving: wife-Beth A. Gonzalez of Delphi; mother & step father-Darline & Val Melendreras of Tampa, FL; children: Michael, Sarah, & Abby; step son-Eric; grandchildren: Christian, Cameron, Casen, Sophia, & Janessa; sisters-Melanie & Griselda; brother-Charlie; beloved nieces & nephews. Services: family & friends will be received Sunday from 3:30pm until his celebration of life service at 5:30pm, at the Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N. US 421, Delphi, IN 46923, Rev. Todd Ladd & Rev. Sheri Rohrer officiating. Beth encourages contributions to the Delphi United Methodist Church Mobile Food Pantry, which Gonzo was passionate about making sure people had what they needed. Mike and I have been friends for many years through the world of Martial Arts. We trained together with many different legends in Kenpo, taught together in the GLASS program and STORM Team at Jefferson High School, fought next to each other at tournaments and enjoyed many years as good friends.

I really admired Mike's tenacity, motivation and endurance in all that he did, especially in his final fight with cancer. He was a very passionate human being and I think that's what drew people to him. He wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed in; I think more people should be like him.

I was really looking forward to seeing him again this summer and comparing notes on health & nutrition. I guess that will have to wait a little while longer.... I will miss him. He was a good friend.

I'm sorry that Beth and his kids and family have to go through this, but I think they would agree that he is much happier now and probably gets to do what he 'really' loves to do from now to eternity.

My sincere condolences to the Gonzalez family. I've known Michael since birth and we grew up in a great era together. So very sad that you got promoted before me and I sure hope to be promoted as you were and live in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with you in eternity. Until we meet again Gonzo may your soul rest in paradise. Please give all my loved ones hugs and kisses as you reunite with them. I love you Gonzo!

Beth and family - I am so incredibly sorry for your loss of Gonzo! I can tell from the 2 short times I was blessed to be in your home and from reading his obituary that he was a very loved man who dearly loved on others. He is in the presence of our Lord now and I know that Jesus is well pleased with his work and mission here on this earth. People come in and out of our lives for a number of reasons, even if it's for a very short time, and I feel so blessed to have met this man and his dear wife who lived on the other side of the scary railroad tracks I will never forget you both ❤

Prayers and hugs for you all!

Another man who knows how Blessed He is. He is Present Now With His Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! His last breath in this life came right before his first breath in Eternity. I will try not to be jealous, Brother.

I would like to express my deepest condolence to the family of Mr.Gonzalez.
He worked with my son in high school and taught him a life lesson, that he to this day holds on to. He put him on the right path teaching him martial art.
Know that Mr. Gonzales is with his Heavenly Father rejoicing.
