Raymond Hanslow, 71

Raymond Hanslow, 71, of Brookston, passed away at 5:59 AM, December 31,2015 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 30,1944 in Kankakee, IL to the late Raymond F. Sr. and Patricia D. (Bishop) Hanslow. He was a 1962 graduate of Mt. Pulaski High School and attended Southern Illinois University.

His marriage was to Shirley L. King on December 17, 1966 in Chillicothe, Il. She survives.

Mr. Hanslow worked in the purchasing department at Caterpillar in Lafayette, retiring after 35 years of service.

Ray was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church and also was in the BUMMS singing group. He had a wonderful voice and sang at many weddings.

In Illinois, he coached Little League Baseball, helped establish the tennis courts at Shore Acres and was on the parks board. Besides singing, he also enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing the guitar.

Surviving with his wife Shirley are three sons: Patrick R. Hanslow (wife: Jacque) of Crawfordsville, Dane K. Hanslow of Nashville, TN and Ryan C. Hanslow (wife: Stephanie) of Lafayette; a sister, Pamela D. Davis (husband: David) of Lincoln, IL and a cousin who was like a brother to him, David Hartley (wife: Marilyn) of Elgin, IL. Ray loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Carson, Kayla, Mallory and Miles Hanslow.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Brookston United Methodist Church (206 East 4th St); Pastor Devin Cook to officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music & Worship Arts by going to umfellowship.org.

To Ray's family...you have my deepest sympathy. I have fond memories of Ray back to grade school days at Mt. Pulaski. He was a very special person. I saw him a few years ago and he has been in my thoughts often regarding his health. He will be missed.
