Roberta Shepard Obituary

Roberta L. "Bert" (Kieffer) Shepard, 78

Roberta L. "Bert" (Kieffer) Shepard, 78, of Lafayette, passed away at home on Thursday, February 26, 2015. Born December 9, 1936 in Orrville, OH, she was the daughter of William H. and Margaret F. (Smith) Kieffer. She attended Kent State University.

Roberta married Ray M. Shepard on January 8, 1962 in Beech Bottom, West Virginia and he survives. She and Shep formerly co-owned Torque-Hub Manufacturing, Mud-Hog Drives Systems and Star Lanes Bowling Center. She was a member of the Lafayette Women's Bowling Association and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 11. She enjoyed playing golf at the Elks, Tippecanoe County Country Club and Stallion Mountain (Las Vegas). She managed their horse stables in Fort Wayne, and then moved to Lafayette in 1972. They retired to Las Vegas for nine years, and then moved back to Lafayette in 2005. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, raising and showing quarter horses. She loved camping, spending time with her family and friends, cooking, playing cards and spreading her fun attitude of "Its 5:00 Somewhere."

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Terri L. Mizer (husband, Mike) of Millersburg, OH and Holly K. Shepard (companion, Larry) of Lafayette, and a son, Dennis M. Shepard (wife, Libby) of Brookston. She also has an extended daughter she called her own Deb Steiner (husband, Ron).

Also surviving are six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who called her "Bonka." She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Howard Kieffer II (Bill).

Private family services will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in Bert's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or your choice of an animal rescue. Simplicity Funeral Care is entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.simplicity-funeralcare.com

Shep & Family: We are saddened to hear of Bert's passing. We reflect fondly of the great friendship you and Bert extended to us during our Indiana Institute of Technology days. Great memory's visiting you at the "farm" and seeing Burt's love for horses. You two made a "great team". Our hearts go out to you with Bert's passing.
