Jimmy Stevens Obituary
He was 85 years old. He fought to the end not to be a burden to anyone. He was a strong man who provided, nurtured, cared, and loved his family to the end! On one occasion he told me in the middle of having chest pains that he appreciated what I was doing for him.
He was born at Catherine's Lake on February 25, 1933; to Mabel and Christopher Stevens.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, and they would have been married for 66 years on December 13, 2018. Also surviving are children, Sharon Henderson, Diana Bradley (Gordon), Julie Bailey (Horace), Jimmy Stevens Jr. (Tammy); grandchildren, Chris, Josh, Kevin, Jessica; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Fletcher, Natalie, Gwen, and Colt; brother, Kenneth Stevens; and sisters, Selma Gibson and Mary Spain.
He was active in civic affairs, was a Master Mason, Shriner, and Sudan Temple in the past.
He drove a bus for Seashore Transportation Company, worked at Excel Body Works and drove the Excel wrecker for Chuck Kay. Earlier in life, his passion was cooking pigs. He won the first Onslow County Pig Cooking Contest in 1977.
He was predeceased by parents, Mabel and Christopher Stevens; grandson, Dustin; and brother, Stevie.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverends Daniel Flynn and Bill Gay officiating. Burial will follow in Onslow Memorial Park.
