Kenneth HYLAND Obituary

HYLAND, Kenneth Charles
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Charles Hyland on February 18, 2014, after a 2 year battle with Cancer at the age of 61. Ken was born on January 24, 1953. He grew up near Dalmeny, SK on the family farm with his sister Joan and his parents Madeline and Charles Hyland. Ken enjoyed farming and continued to for many years while raising his 3 boys Carl, Jason and Brian. Ken also loved driving and being on the road and so after years of farming Ken changed careers and went trucking. He began working for Calac Trucking where he made many good friends with fellow drivers. In 2003, Ken met Cathy, the love of his life, and a year later they were married. Their new blended family together had 6 kids and 14 grandchildren whom he loved dearly and was so proud of. The grandkids loved visiting their papa and he loved playing with them. After many years driving his semi, Ken took the opportunity to learn something new and so went to school to get his Heavy Equipment Operator license, and later started at MacEwen Constructors. He really enjoyed driving the different construction vehicles and being a part of the building process. Ken was also a huge Nascar fan, and of Tony Stewart inparticular. Nothing got in his way of watching his racing on Sundays. Although he drove a lot for work, he rarely travelled for pleasure so his trip to Tofino, BC with Cathy meant the world to him, and he spoke of it often. Ken is survived by his wife Catherine Hyland of 8 years, children; Carl (Alana) Hyland, Aaron, Ethan and Alyssa; Jason (Cynthia) Hyland, Ryan, Dakota, and Shayla; Brian (Nikki) Hyland, Mykenzie and Morgyn; Jennifer (Derek) Fisher, Courtney, Bree, and Megan; Autumn (Kelly) Thompson, Ethan, Evan and Elle; Murray Petkau; his mother Madeline Hyland; sister Joan (Brian) Opheim, Dawn and Kelly (Chandi) Opheim; and Jack and Lois Beatty. He was predeceased by his father Charles Hyland, and grandparents John and Monica Brecht and Nellie and Thomas Hyland. Cathy would like to thank Dr. Franke, Dr. Hader, and the staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic for all of their help and support. There will be a come and go visitation on Friday, February 21st at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 - 3rd Ave. N. Saskatoon from 7 - 9 p.m. The Funeral will be held February 22nd, at 2 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Saskatoon, SK.
