Daniel Songer Obituary

Daniel "Dan" Joseph Songer, age 67, of Brookville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital in Brookville.

Dan was born in Brookville on November 6, 1956, to the late Donald James and Martha (Silvis) Songer.

He graduated from Brookville High School with the Class of 1974.

Dan married the love of his life, Margaret (Crate) Songer, on May 28, 1977, in Clarion. She survives. Their dedication to one another for more than 47 years served as a testament to their love and loyalty. They created a beautiful life while raising two children full of love and memories.

After high school, Dan attended Lumber Grading School in Memphis, Tenn. He worked as a lumber grader for Corsica Lumber and Simpson Lumber for years, then Jefferson Paving, and finished his career an operator for PennDOT, before retiring in 2016.

Dan was a member of the Sigel Volunteer Fire Company for many years, the Knights of Columbus and a leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

Dan took pleasure in a range of outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting (especially with his grandchildren), four-wheel riding, cutting firewood and spending time at their family camp.

He enjoyed watching classic western and cowboy movies.

Dan also loved tinkering around in his garage.

Most importantly, his family was his greatest treasure in life.

Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and would frequently tease those he loved. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Dan will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Margaret, Dan is survived by two children, Shawn D. (Jill) Songer of Brookville and Afton M. (Corey) Anthony of Brookville; seven grandchildren, Lani Songer and Savannah Songer, Landon Anthony, Taryn Raines, Braylon Raines, Lindzey Oakes and Logan Oakes; three siblings, Donna (Chuck) Swartz of Tidioute, Denny "Butch" (Kathy) Songer of N.C. and Penny (Chuck) Simpson; one sister-in-law, Lori (Dr. John) Wagner of Brookville; one brother-in-law, Allen (Deb) Crate of Brookville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie Songer and his infant brother Michael; and one nephew, Dustin Songer of Brookville.

The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 25, at the Carrier Funeral Home, located at 2834 Maplevale Road in Brookville.

A second viewing took place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, also at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held following the second viewing beginning at 11 a.m. and officiated by Preacher Randy Matheny.

Interment took place privately.
