Rose Ames Obituary

Rose Ellen (Blake) Ames, 94 years young, entered into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Rose was born on June 13, 1929, in Brookville. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Sara (Hilliard) Blake.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Ames; daughter, Brenda; sisters, Sara Margaret Bruner, Mary Evans and Georgia Lamirande; and grandson, Ryan.

Survivors include her son, William Dennis (Lucy); daughters, Deborah (Larry Smith) and Nancy Ames; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Paul Blake II (Sandy); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rose was a graduate of Brookville High School, where she met the love of her life, William O. Ames.

She attended college classes in Indiana, at Indiana Teachers College, before she married William on October 10, 1948.

Rose was a loving wife and mother, and in 2018 celebrated seventy years of marriage with her beloved husband.

She was a devoted mother to her four children and enjoyed supporting them in their interests and events.

In addition to being a full-time mom, she was the secretary for Ames Lumber Company and REM Coal.

Rose was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brookville for over 70 years and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.

She loved to sing in the choir and served in many other church activities.

Rose enjoyed a life of adventures with her husband as they often traveled all over the world and spent many winters in their homes in Florida.

Her hobbies included playing the piano, reading, playing bridge, golf and tennis. She also delighted in playing the organ, cooking and art, and she inspired her children and grandchildren in many of these areas. Most of all, she cherished holiday gatherings and spending time with family and friends.

Rose/Mom/Gigi/sister/ friend…You will be dearly and deeply missed, but never forgotten. We love you forever.

I knew Rose and Bill when I stayed with my parents, Jack and Sheila Adams in Bradenton. they were both a lot of fun and we played many a round of golf together. I also. Met Nancy and Brenda in those days. I am saying a silent prayer for the wonderful Ames family members that I was privileged to know
