STE MARIE -- Mrs. Bernadette Marie Reis, age 96, of Ste Marie, IL passed away at 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Effingham, IL. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, IL with Fr. Robert Spriggs celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Marie, IL. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the church with visitation also held 1/2 before the mass on Wednesday. In loving memory of Bernadette, memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Arrangements under the care of Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Bernadette was born on April 9, 1910 in Jasper County, IL the daughter of Samuel and Kathryn (Schmidt) Hahn. She married Louis Reis in 1931 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1967. Bernadette was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, IL. She was also a member of St. Mary's Altar Society; Ste. Marie American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Jasper County Home Extension for over 50 years. Bernadette is survived by: daughters - Patricia Reis of Chicago, Karen (James) Young of Milwaukee, WI and Annette Lynch of Charleston; brother - Ed (Angela) Hahn of Newton; sister - Marjorie Spitz of Texas; 11 grandchildren, David Reis, Scott Reis, Chris Young, Tim Young, Elizabeth Coldstream, Johnny Handzel, Mark Handzel, Will Handzel, Kerry Lynch, Shannon Lynch and Tara Lynch; 15 great-grandchildren. Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Norton Reis, daughter Arlette Jane Reis, sister Evelyn Barthelme.
