Joyce Postlewait Obituary

Joyce Gail Postlewait

September 8, 1944 - September 27, 2025

CHARLESTON - Joyce Gail Postlewait, age 81, of Charleston, IL, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. She was born on September 8, 1944, in Effingham, IL, to Louis Eidson and Wanda (Brooks) Trapper, and was primarily raised by her mother and loving stepfather, Ed Trapper.

Joyce is survived by her three children: Kim (Max) Coffey of Charleston, Kelly (Ted) Hart of Charleston, and Kerry (Marie) Postlewait of D'Iberville, MS; six grandchildren: Blake Coffey, Travis (Macy) Coffey, Doug (Nancy) Coffey, Allison (Akshay) Singh, Andrew Hart, and Angela (Brent) Jones; and four great-grandchildren: Maverick Coffey, Beau Hart, Neel Singh, and Garron Waltman. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Kathy Eidson of College Station, TX; and one cousin, Mike (Brenda) Van Atta of Hanna City, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Rob Coffey and Erica Mullins; and two brothers, DeWayne Eidson and Gary Eidson.

Joyce began her education in Newton and later graduated from Morton High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University (EIU), proudly completing her degree with high honors-all while raising her children.

Joyce began her career with Farm Credit before spending the last 20 years of her professional life in the business office at EIU, retiring after a dedicated tenure as an accountant.

She was raised in the Cummins Church in Rose Hill, IL, and was a devoted member of Ashmore Presbyterian Church. Joyce loved serving in her church, volunteering as a Sunday School teacher and helping with Vacation Bible School for many years.

Known fondly as "Grandma Joyce" by many, she was deeply involved in her children's lives by serving as a classroom mother, PTA member, and Girl Scout leader.

Joyce was a recent fan of Elvis Presley music and movies. She found joy in reading, and cherished every moment spent with her family. She especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings and relaxing in her backyard, where she loved watching the birds and wildlife. A devoted animal lover throughout her life, Joyce was also a constant presence in her grandchildren's lives-faithfully attending their school and sporting events, and always welcoming them with open arms for sleepovers filled with love and laughter.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Brad Shumaker. Burial will follow at Hunt-Cummins Cemetery in Rose Hill, IL.
