EAST LANSING, Mich. -Viola B. Ringenberg, age 92 of East Lansing, Michigan and formerly of Charleston, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010 at her home. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Vi, as she was affectionately known, was born on December 2, 1917 in Baltimore, Maryland, one of four children born to the late William and Pearl (Wilson) Brown. She served as an Army Nurse during World War II and it was during that time that she met and married a young officer, Lawrence A. Ringenberg. They made Charleston their home where Vi became well known and loved by her many friends and professional colleagues. She was employed and also volunteered as a registered nurse in the Charleston area and for more than sixty years she was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed such hobbies as knitting and solving crossword puzzles. Above all, Vi was committed to her family and was a tireless caregiver to her husband and family members. Viola is survived by two sons, Richard R. Ringenberg and wife Lynn of Washington, DC and John J. Ringenberg and wife Shelley of Monroeville, Ohio; a daughter, Joanne J. Vanderveen and husband Terry of Okemos, Michigan; nine grandsons; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elnor Wright and husband Ernest of Baltimore. In addition to her parents Viola was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; a son, Lawrence A. Ringenberg, Jr. in 1990; and two sisters.

The Witters family . . .
The twins and Chuck have such wonderful memories playing with the Ringenberg kids. Your folks were always so nice to us. What a carefree and safe life we had back then. Jodie, remember our skunk club? My thought and prayers are with you.

I remember babysitting for you kids. My mother did, also. We loved being neighbors to your family and the younger ones in our family had such a good time with Richard and Jodie. God bless you all. Norma Witters Klaus

She was always such a nice lady to us kids in the neighborhood. So was Dr. Ringenberg. I am closest in age to Richard and Jodie but I do remember John and Larry.
We had so much fun growing up in that neighborhood. Good neighbors and friends. The Plaths, Martha Schmidt, David Claar and I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Playing 30 Scatter at night and all of the other kid games we played. It was so safe and fun then. Richard and Jodie lived the closest to us so we spent more time at their house and Dr. and Mrs. Ringenberg always made us welcome. You should be very proud of your parents.

A miserable cold has necessitated I take this route to express my sympathy to you all. As a nurse, Vi would approve of my decision. We lived as neighbors to Ringenberg's from 1969 to 1977 and enjoyed a relationship with them long after we moved. When seeing Vi "around," we would exchange bits of information about our children and what we were doing. I missed that after Vi moved to Michigan.
It is hard to lose a parent at any age. Sixty years ago on a cold rainy December day I buried my mother, so I know your memories of your mother will remain with you always. You have my sincere sympathy. Betty Simon

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of your family. The Witters family have such fond memories of your family and the wonderful times we had at your house and playing with all of you. Your mother was such a gracious person and that was especially true to our family. You will always have such great memories of her and that will be a blessing to you. God will hold each of you during this difficult time.
