Fred Barnett Obituary

Freddie Harold Barnett of Jonesboro passed from this life on June 22, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born May 9, 1945 to the late Vern and Bera Barnett. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Barnett, Frank Barnett, and Gene Barnett. Fred is survived by his life partner, Gayle Gambill. Together, they shared a fulfilling life for almost 40 years, including love, laughter, and cherished memories with their blended family. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth (James) Bittle and Rebekah (Kevin) Snyder. Fred is also survived by Gayle's children, whom he loved as his own: Robert (Ryllis) Gambill, Kirsten Gambill, and Jacob (Catherine Norvell) Gambill. Other survivors include his two sisters, Ann Merrell and Linda Robinson, as well as grandchildren: Lydia Bittle, Samuel Bittle, Josie Snyder, Jessica (Matt) Miller, Blaine Province, Trey Gambill, Maggie Gray, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A final survivor includes his loyal four-legged friend, Rusty, whom he adopted from the Humane Society over 12 years ago. Rusty was never far from Fred's side. Fred grew up in a close-knit family and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1964. His strong sense of duty led him to serve in the Army, where he was stationed in Germany in the late 1960s. Fred worked at a young age for his father's construction company, Barnett Construction, where he honed his skills and developed a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life. Later, he transitioned into concrete work, where his craftsmanship was sought out by many, and he mentored many young men, helping them start their own concrete businesses. Fred loved to work and never retired, which is something he was very proud of. Fred was also known for his big heart and sense of humor. Friends and family describe him as funny and hardworking, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a good laugh. His love for nature was evident in his hobbies; he found joy in fishing, camping, gardening, and hunting. Fred was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he found community and fellowship. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A visitation will be held on June 28, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center. The family will have a private graveside service and burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church or the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society in Fred's memory.
