Joey Cox Obituary
Joey Delano Cox, a revered former State Trooper and cherished family patriarch, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, in Jonesboro, AR. Born on November 29, 1932, in the small communities of Blue Cane / Lone Holly, Joey's life was a testament to service, dedication, and love.
Joey's journey began as the son of Remmel and Viva (Tyler) Cox, who instilled in him the values of integrity and hard work. His beloved wife, Dorris (McDaniel) Cox, predeceased him, leaving a legacy of love that continued through his devoted care for his grandchildren, Gracie and Jacob Cox.
A man of honor and courage, Joey served as a State Trooper for over three decades, retiring after 32 years, 2 months, and 13 days of distinguished service. His commitment to duty was evident as he retired at the stroke of midnight on the last day of 1997, having never used 123 sick days. His dedication to law enforcement extended beyond his official duties; he taught Search and Seizure at the Arkansas State Police Academy for six years and shared his expertise as an Armorer and Firearms training instructor for 30 years.
Joey's bravery was not confined to the streets and classrooms; he was a paratrooper during the Korean War, where he skillfully piloted a Piper J3 Cub and the formidable Boeing B-29. His service to his country was matched by his service to his community, as he worked Riot Control for eight years and he also worked Crowd Control when the nation was shaken by the assassination of Martin Luther King.
In times of crisis, Joey was the calm in the storm, delivering three babies over the course of his tenure on I-40 after midnight, a feat that showcased his ability to act with compassion and composure under pressure.
After retiring, Joey channeled his unwavering commitment into raising his grandchildren. He approached this role with the same fervor and dedication that characterized his career as a State Trooper. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he considered helping to shape their lives one of his greatest accomplishments.
Joey Delano Cox lived a life marked by service, whether in uniform, in the skies, or within the walls of his home. His legacy is one of strength, love, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire those who carry on his spirit of service. Joey's life was a beacon of what it means to live with honor, and his story will be told with pride for generations to come.
