Max Herman Baltz, 86, of Pocahontas, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his loving children and loving wife of 65 years, Margie.
Born on August 13, 1939, in Pocahontas, Max was the cherished son of Bartha and Rosa Weisenbach Baltz. After graduation, Max married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Margie. A lifelong resident of the community, he was a devoted member of both St. Paul and St. John Catholic Churches and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith, family, and love for the outdoors were the pillars of his life.
Max found joy in the simple pleasures-hunting, fishing, and boating were among his favorite pastimes. Whether casting a line on a quiet morning or sharing stories with family on the water, he lived with a deep appreciation for nature and togetherness. A master builder known for his unwavering craftsmanship and honest spirit. Max was a man who didn't just build houses, he built homes, and with every project, he built lasting relationships.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bartha and Rosa Baltz; and his siblings: Catherine Barre, James Baltz, Helen Hunter, Robert Baltz, Tom Baltz, Alice Jansen, Frances Steimel, Ray Baltz, Curtis Baltz, Fintan Baltz, and Lucian Baltz.
Max leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in the hearts of his family: his devoted wife, Margie Baltz, of the home; his children, Malissa (Allen) Crawford, Karen Johnson, Gerald (Tammie) Baltz, Keith (Lisa) Baltz, and Renee (Chris) Kawcak; and his beloved grandchildren, Jillian (Marty) Hogan, Derek (Lesli) Baltz, Kyle Wren, Jason (Sarah) Wren, Zachary Johnson, Taylor (Chris) Ussery, Ashley Hagood, Morgan (Landon) Meldrum, Emma (Nathan) Pittman, Courtney Kawcak, Nicholas Baltz, Cody Kawcak, and Max Baltz.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Madalyn, Hailey, and Wyatt Hogan; Asher Wren; Paige and Dean Wren; Alice and Allan Baltz; Waylon Ussery; and Etta Jane Meldrum. He is also fondly remembered by a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss his warm presence and steady guidance.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, officiated by Father Stephen Elser. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
