TRUMANN - Donald "Don" Levon O'Brien, a lifetime resident of Trumann, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 2 days.
Don was born in Trumann on September 6, 1945, to the late James Wilson O'Brien and Lona Sarah Haslett O'Brien. He married the love of his life, Sheila Joyce Harkey O'Brien, on May 14, 1965. In his earlier years, he farmed with his father and brothers on Judd Hill Plantation, later retiring from Roach Manufacturing.
Don was of the Baptist faith, an avid coon hunter and took great pleasure in being outdoors. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends. Oh, the hilarious stories of life and hunting, that man could tell, filling the room with laughter and creating everlasting memories! He was the best PaPaw any grandchild could ask for.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Richard "Ricky" O'Brien of Trumann, Herman Lee O'Brien of Jonesboro; one son, Donnie Wayne O'Brien of Trumann; and a son-in-law, Steve Stracener of Brookland.
He has survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sheila O'Brien of the home; two daughters, Kathy Stracener of Brookland, Beverly (Scotty) Hisaw of Trumann; 11 grandchild, Samantha Latiolais (Jock) of Brookland, Zachary O'Brien of Trumann, Dillon O'Brien of Trumann, Stephanie (Chris) Warren of Brookland, Savannah O'Brien of Trenton, MS, Brianna Hanna (Dustin) of Trumann, Paige Hisaw of Trumann, Nate Douglas of Jonesboro, Harleigh Hisaw of Trumann, Trevor Echols of Trumann, and Gracyn O'Brien of Trumann; and 18 great-grandchild. He also leaves behind a host of family that will sincerely miss him.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 22 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dale Davis officiating. Burial will be private.
