JONESBORO - Gerald Wayne Shipman, 82, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, at the Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. Gerald was born South of Paragould on Sept. 26, 1941, to the late Obid and Viola Shipman.
In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Shipman and Nellie Weaver; and his brothers, Robert, Marvin, James, and Larry Shipman.
Gerald was born, raised, and spent the majority of his life in Northeast Arkansas. He was an avid knife collector. He would scour different swap meets and garage sales to find the best pieces for his collection. Gerald spent a lot of time thrifting and searching through flea markets. He loved to fish, camp, and sing karaoke. If he wasn't thrifting, fishing, or singing he was more than likely working. Gerald loved to work and stay busy. But most importantly, Gerald loved being with his family.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Shipman, of the home; daughters, Patricia Martinez (Simon) of California, Paula Howerton (Stover) of Virginia, and Amy Lewis of Jonesboro; sister, Shirley Shipman of Jonesboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, close neighbors, and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on Friday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion cemetery with Bro. Larry Bailey officiating. Honorary pallbearers include Kevin Shipman, Lindall Pratt, Paul Brooks, Rick Cook and Clark McDaniel.
