Anthony Colletti Obituary

Anthony J. "Tony" Colletti, 73, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 11, 2007.

He was born August 19, 1934, in Queens, N.Y., son of the late Joseph Anthony Colletti and Mary (DePasquale) Colletti, and lived in Brooklyn as a boy where the family and the neighborhood fondly called him Sonny. Tony then moved to East Hartford at the age of twelve. He was a graduate of East Hartford High School and enjoyed attending his class reunions ever since. Tony eventually moved to Manchester where he settled in to raise his family, which he adored and cherished. He was a journeyman sheet-metal worker with local 40 out of Hartford for 42 years where he was personally involved in projects all over the Northeast, including one major project in Boston and many projects all over Connecticut, such as the Essex Steam Train and at Millstone. Tony also taught the apprenticeship program for Local 40 for many years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, target shooting, coin collecting, slot car racing, NASCAR, and playing computer games with his family. He was Frank Sinatra's number 1 fan. Tony spent much time doting on his precious cat Jimmy (named for James Cagney, whom he resembled). His favorite pastime, however, was any time spent with his beloved family and his dear friends. His heart was pure. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend whose blue eyes twinkled and whose laugh cheered the world. He will be forever loved and missed.

Tony is survived by his wife, sweetheart, and the love of his life, Gerlinde (Pfau) Colletti, whom he was blissfully married and devoted to for 39 years. He is also survived by five children, Anthony Joseph Colletti Jr. and his wife, Joanne, of Vernon, Cari Duigou and her husband, Jeffery, of Colchester, Erin Kuczynski and her husband, Russ, of Coventry, Gerlinde Orfitelli and her husband, John, of Manchester, and Joseph Anthony Colletti and his wife, Kathleen, of Glastonbury; 13 grandchildren, Erin, Ashley, Chelsea, Ryan, Eileen, Anthony ("AJ"), Jeffery, Evan, Lindsay, Christopher, Samantha, Joseph, and Natalie; two great-grandchildren, Selena and Rayana; his brother and best friend, Thomas Colletti and his wife, Barbara, of Manchester; two sisters, Lucille Vernali and her husband, Tony, of Manchester, and Mary Yagmin of Wethersfield; a brother-in-law, Charles Avery of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Eileen Colletti of Manchester; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by two sisters, Angela Colletti and Carmen Avery; and two brothers, Joseph and John Colletti.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.

Calling hours will be Friday, Dec. 14, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691, or to the Humane Society of CT, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.

Kathy & Joe,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Joe - I remember your dad as a ''happy guy''. When new people I've met over the years have asked me to share stories from my past I almost always talk about going to your house to play games with Anne and Greg, etc. - and how I would always count on walking through the front door to find your dad sitting in his chair, listening to some Frank Sinatra and snapping his fingers to the music...I always loved that.

I pray you feel God's comfort and loving presence during this time.

The Adams Family

December 13, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Gerlinde....
You and Tony were the very first ones to know of our love story when we all worked at MMH. In the beginning, we modeled our affection & love for one another based on your love story with Tony. We both loved your tenderness & committment to each other. Whenever Christopher and I spent time with you both, we always left your home & presence more in love and better friends. You and Tony inspired us to want to be more in love, closer friends, more giving to others, and nicer to one another. While Tony may be gone, your love story and legacy lives on in us and I'm sure, many others. Please know that you and your family will continue to be in our thoughts, minds, hearts, and prayers as you continue living each day. We love you Gerlinde & Tony!! With Love, Kimberlee & Christopher

My precious brother Tony,
Tony and I were 13 months apart and he and I were playmates and inseparable. We were always together. In New York he was known as "Sunny", I couldn't say that so I called him "Funny". Our families are always close. Often when our grown families go to dinner, Tony and I will be ordering the same entres. Tony was and will always be my special and precious brother. I will miss him. He left behind a beautiful family.

Gerlinde and family, I am so sorry about Tony... I am sorry I live so far away. I'm sending an electronic hug to you all! My mom passed these words to me when my grandmother died.."Those we love, never go away. They walk beside us, everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, still ever dear." I pass these to you because they mean so much to me and are reminders of the love people give so freely, as Tony did to everyone...Love, Karen
