Barbara Baylock Obituary

Barbara Anne (Parker) Baylock, 75, of Mansfield Center, best friend and loving wife of 52 years of Andrew J. Baylock, peacefully entered into eternal life on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015.

Born in Springfield on June 16, 1939, to the late Walter W. and Marion H. (Roberts) Parker, she spent most of her adult life in Mansfield. Barbara was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, class of 1962, and was an elementary school teacher in Plainville and Bolton. When she and Andrew started a family, that became the focus of her time along with volunteering for several community charities in the Mansfield area. From the mid-1980s through the early 2000s she became "Mama Bear" to innumerable UConn student-athletes, running an evening study hall through the Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletics. Barbara greatly enjoyed summers in Cape Cod, Canada, and Maine, knitting, feeding the birds, sending cards to friends and family, morning walks at Wal-Mart, and afternoon rides through the countryside.

Besides her husband, Andy, Barbara is survived by a son, Jeffrey Baylock and his wife, Gina Benoit, of Manchester; two daughters, Andrea Baylock of Amston and Jennifer Malloy and her husband, Joseph, of Amston; three grandchildren, Kyle Malloy of Manchester and Paige Casey and Shane Casey-Stone of Plainville; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Sevigny of Southington and Kathy Beaudoin and her husband, Serge, of Southington; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her cherished sister, Nancy Murray of Jasper, Alabama.

Barbara's family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at St. Joseph Living Center and to the crew at American Ambulance for the outstanding and loving care Barbara received over the past two weeks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name may be made to St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Road, Windham, CT 06280; or to Windham Area Interfaith Ministries, 866 Main St., Willimantic, CT 06226.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., (Route 195), Willimantic.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St, Willimantic. Assembly will be at church. Committal services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
