Charles Murphy Obituary

Charles Murphy
1950-2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Murphy, who left us at the age of 74. He was raised in Rockville, CT by Irish Americans, Edward and Mary Murphy. Charlie carried on their legacy with his quick wit, warm heart, and gift for storytelling that made everyone feel welcome. He was a beloved brother to Jim and Joe Murphy, with whom he shared a lifetime of good-natured banter. Charlie was warmly embraced by his extended Kissane and Kennedy in-laws (and outlaws), who welcomed him as one of their own.
Charlie cultivated lifelong friendships via Vernon schools, Central Connecticut State College, his Rotisserie Baseball crew, countless softball teams, and his years at Work Apparel. Before settling down, Charlie's free spirit took him on the road following the Grateful Dead, developing a passion for music and adventure that stayed with him all his life. Charlie's knowledge of geography was legendary-no matter where someone traveled, he always had a relevant story or intriguing fact to share.
However, his greatest journey was the life he built with his beloved wife of 38 years, Marian. Together, they raised their two sons, Connor and Patrick, instilling in them the values of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Charlie never missed a chance to support and cheer on his sons Connor and Patrick. Watching them grow into the men they are today was one of his greatest joys, and his heart expanded even more when he welcomed his daughters-in-law, Shelby and Taryn. Nothing made him prouder, however, than becoming "Pop-Pop" to Kennedy and Rory Murphy, whom he adored beyond measure. As he transitioned through hospice, Charlie's family and friends stood by him as they shared with him their stories, affections and laughter.
Charlie's family expresses profound gratitude to the countless nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals who cared for him throughout his many years of health challenges. Yet he reserved his deepest thanks for his beloved wife, Marian, whose unwavering support, loving care, and boundless loyalty carried him through every step of his journey.
Though he has left this world, his stories, humor, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Tolland Crandall Lodge at 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Speeches will begin at 3:00 p.m., and all are encouraged to share their memories. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be sent in his honor to Rockville Little League Baseball, P.O. Box 3087, Vernon, CT 06066.
