Clyde Shackford Obituary

Clyde E. Shackford, Jr.
Clyde E. Shackford, Jr., 90, of Vernon, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Clyde was born in Lewiston, Maine, and was the son of the late Clyde E. Shackford, Sr. and Frances (Merrill-Shackford) Caudle. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp., of which he was extremely proud. One of his proudest moments was to serve on the USS Midway in 1955. Dad had a lifetime of diversified jobs that led him to his most loved profession as owner of Shackford Stone Masonry, in Eastern CT. He personalized and created each wall that was built by hand. A profession he proudly passed on to his son, Michael Shackford, and brother, John Shackford. He was very active with MCC athletic department, including managing the logistics of the MCC relays. Second to that, he was manager of the Columbia Women's Softball league, including maintaining the baseball field. He dedicated himself to making the field as pristine as possible, where many teams were proud to play! Dad's hobbies included summers camping at Ginny B's in RI, softball, football, swimming, and a dedicated follower of the UCONN Men's and Women's basketball teams.
Besides his fiancée, Shirley Antonelli, of Vernon, he is survived by his "Yours, mine and ours" children: Michelle Soldat and husband Dale, Margaret Getz and husband, Robert, Michael K. Shackford, James Monaghan and wife, Debbie, Tom White and wife, Cindy, Scott Shackford and wife, Melissa, Ronald Shackford and wife, Sherrie, Shawn Shackford, Geneva Armata and husband, David, Diane Breault and husband, Jeffrey. He is survived by his sisters, Susan Shackford, Linda Coffey, Janet Brown, and brothers, James Shackford and wife, Diane, and John Shackford and wife, Sylvia. Clyde had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joanne L. (DeVaux) Shackford; his baby daughters, Erin Shackford and Dannean Shackford; and brother, Peter Shackford. The family would like to personally thank the nursing staff of Manchester Memorial Hospital, 2 East, for the excellent care and attention they gave to our father. Visitation with chapel service at 11:30am will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10am to 12pm at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home, located at 400 Main St., Manchester, Connecticut. Burial will take place immediately after at the Elmwood Cemetery, in Vernon, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner's international Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607, or PKD Foundation, P.O. Box 871847, Kansas City, MO 64187.
