Daniel McKenzie Obituary

Daniel Hugh McKenzie, 58, of Charlotte, N.C.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2009, Daniel McKenzie and his wife, Maureen McKenzie, died unexpectedly as a result of an automobile accident in York County, S.C. Dan was born Jan. 7, 1951, in Bangor, Maine, and grew up in Manchester. Dan was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University and was a longtime employee of Superior Electric as a purchasing agent and inventory control specialist.

In 2001, Dan and his beloved wife of 28 years, Maureen McKenzie, were relocated to Charlotte, N.C. He was currently employed for Parker-Hannifin. Dan's love and dedication for his family touched the hearts of friends and close ones as well. His encouraging nature, helping hand, and lending ear were unique and will be forever missed.

Dan was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies and documentaries on the History Channel. Gaining knowledge any way possible was a popular pastime. Dan's beloved pet chihuahuas, Maggie and Molly, were his pride and joy. Sarah, Mckenzie, Sam, and Dylan filled his life with joy and smiles. A friendship with Dan was a friendship for life.

Dan will be missed by his father, George McKenzie, and his wife, Phyllis, of Tavares, Fla.; his two brothers, Stephen and his wife, Christine, and their children, Keith and Kimberly, of Hebron; Rod and his wife, Peggy, of East Hampton, Hillary LaMalfa and her husband, John, and their children, Mckenzie and Sam, of Portland; his two daughters, Cheryl Colson and her husband, Rod Colson, of Colchester, Tracy Pentalow and her son, Dylan Pentalow, of Southington; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as their beloved pet chihuahuas, Maggie and Molly. Dan was predeceased by his mother, Velma McKenzie.

Dan will be forever loved by his heartbroken family and dearly missed by all. Donations may be made to: The Visiting Nurses Association of Central Connecticut Inc., 205 W. Main St., New Britain, CT 06052.

Our Deepest Condolences to the Families of Dan & Maureen:

I had the pleasure of working with Dan & Maureen at Superior Electric. I worked in the same department with Dan for lots of years. I had lunch with Dan & Maureen. They were wonderful people. My wife, Claudette, and I exchanged Christmas cards with Dan & Maureen and we were always extended an open invitation to visit them in North Carolina. We were planning to do so in the near future. We were devastated to hear of their tragic accident. They were wonderful people. Our deepest condolences to both families.

I remember lifting weights and watching "Laugh In" with Dan in the basement on Delmont Street. I remember him dreamily listening to the "Moody Blues" in his bedroom. I also remember your father telling Dan and me "No card playing on Sundays." I miss him.
