Dolores McKinney Obituary
Dolores M. (Tuttle) McKinney, beloved wife of the late Wayne McKinney, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, with her granddaughter Meranda by her side. Dolores was born on July 9, 1937, to the late Robert and Iris Tuttle in Corinna, ME.
She grew up on a small farm and graduated high school from Corinna Union Academy. After high school, Dolores relocated to East Hartford, CT, where she raised her family. She was employed for many years as an administrative assistant at Pratt & Whitney. In her later years, she worked at Sam's Club in the marketing office and then as a greeter. Along with raising her three children, she cared for her disabled sister, the late Norma Tuttle, for over 30 years. Upon retirement from Pratt & Whitney, she moved to Inman, SC, where she was an active member of Inman First Baptist Church. Upon the passing of her daughter, the late Diana Ferris, she relocated back to Vernon, CT, to support her grandchildren.
Dolores is remembered for her insatiable sweet tooth, love of soap operas, her enjoyment of the casino, and traveling with her husband Wayne. Some of her most memorable trips were to Hawaii, Nashville and the Grand Canyon.
She is survived by her three grandchildren, Meranda VanDeventer and her husband Michael of Tolland, CT, Mark Phelps Jr. and his wife, Brittanny of Williston, FL, and Tyler Phelps of West Hartford, CT, her five great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle and Caden VanDeventer, Mark Phelps III and Kylie Phelps, her lifelong friend Aurise Ouellette, and extended family throughout Connecticut and Maine. In addition to her husband and parents, Dolores was predeceased by her son, Terry Ferris and her two daughters, Diana Ferris and Kelly Ferris, her sister, Norma Tuttle and her brother, Harley Tuttle.
All are welcome to join her family for a calling hour at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon, CT, on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with a service to begin at 12:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford.
