Douglas Sheldon Obituary
Born in Hartford on February 15, 1925, he was the son of Alfred O. and Ruby (LeBrecque) Sheldon. He was a proud Army veteran of WW II. He retired from Tyco Lab in Stafford Springs and was also an owner of Sheldon's Arco Station and the Bidwell Tavern in Coventry. He was a member of the VFW in Ashford.
He is survived by his sister, Anita Sheldon Schmidt and brother-in-law, Rodney Schmidt of South Windsor; a granddaughter, Shannon Ferri in Massachusetts, a grandson, Peter Sheldon in Vermont; and a great-grandson, Zane. He also leaves his beloved friend, Mary Hurt of Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son, John P. Sheldon.
A graveside service will take place Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
There are no calling hours.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.

HI honey well here it s march 12th already bubba and I just can,t believe that you left me almost 2 months ago. there isn,t a day that goes by that I don,t think of you,I have stopped by to say hi to you a few times. Then I go over to visit my grandson Phillip. Doug,it took me a while to sign the book it is very hard for me to say things,but i just want you to know that i miss you so very much. i sit here in the living room and i still can see you sitting in your chair watching t.v. honey when i left Florida to come to ct. to live with you Iwant you to know that it was the happiest two we had together. God just took you away from me to soon. To The Sheldon Family, My condolences on Doug's passing, I worked with Doug at Monaco Ford 45 years ago. Doug and Marge were very good to me and my wife and were real friends when they lived in East Hartford. Doug was a great person and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Hey Uncle Dougie (Bubba), I'm going to miss you in a Earthly kind of way. As lots of others will also. Gonna miss your authentic hospitality, your flashy humor (and the smile that went along with it), your great concern for others;even though you were the one feeling the pain. You had great character. And now where you are there's no pain and you can be amongst a bunch of great character, just like yourself. You must be loving it up there! Well, I'll be seeing you again. For you it'll be no time at all, but for me Uncle Bubba, it'll be a bit longer. I love you! And may God continue blessing you up there.
