Francis Barrett Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Francis J. Barrett, on Saturday, June 8, 2013.

Born in Hartford, son of the late Batton B. Barrett and Antoinette (Decorci) Barrett. He was reared in East Hartford with his sister, Carolyn. Fran lived in Broad Brook for 25 years, where he raised his children with love and devotion. He served with honor for six years as a sergeant and squad leader in the Connecticut Army National Guard. Francis owned and operated an auto repair station in East Hartford and a Mobil franchise in Willington. Fran also was a medical courier for 10 years. Fran enjoyed a full and rich life. He volunteered and managed the Centurions Youth Drum and Bugle Corps. He had a keen interest in history and politics and was an avid Yankees and Huskies fan. His appreciation and love of music was an integral part of his life and soul. He enjoyed his experiences traveling in his RV. Later he spent many happy vacations in Ogunquit, Maine.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Barrett of Manchester. He is the loving father of five children, Keith Barrett, and his wife, Jane, of Simsbury, Lisa Barrett of South Glastonbury, Steven Barrett, and his partner, Lois Grasso, of East Hartford, Kirk Barrett, and his wife, Colleen, of Manchester, and Mark Barrett, of Manchester. He also leaves two cherished grandchildren, Olivia Barrett and Neriad Barrett-Velazquez; his sister, Carolyn Haddon of Maine; two sisters-in-law, Leonette LaFleur of Manchester and Phyllis Beaulieu of Danbury; two godchildren, Kathleen Brady and the late Jeffrey Beaulieu; and several nieces and nephews.

The Barrett family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful doctors and staff at Hartford Hospital.

The family will have a private celebration of Fran's life.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
