Gerald Campbell Obituary

Gerald S. "Jerry" Campbell
Gerald S. "Jerry" Campbell, 79, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at home. He was born in Hartford, CT., to the late Paul and Dorothy (Norcross) Campbell. Growing up in East Hartford, he then resided in Manchester for a few years before building his home in Columbia in 1986.
He had a dedicated career to fire service; he became a devoted fire fighter for the Town of East Hartford in 1968, to then become Deputy Fire Marshall until 1998. He finished the remainder of his career as Deputy Fire Marshall for the Town of Bloomfield, retiring in 2022.
Jerry enjoyed driving fast cars as much as he enjoyed building them. He also attended many car shows with friends. He loved traveling to South Carolina with Sampson to relax on his balcony with a cold sambuca in his hand, listening to the waves. Jerry was a man of many words; he enjoyed a great conversation and always had a story to share. He will be remembered for his big sarcastic personality and for his heart that was even bigger.
He is survived by his beloved dog, Sampson; three children, Patricia Gill of East Hampton, Phil Abbott and his fiancé, Sue Mayo of Manchester, and Eric Abbott and his wife Jessica Abbott of Texas; his grandchildren, Amber Diaz and her husband Norberto, Shannon Estanislau, Ryan Estanislau, Kira Gill, Joshua Gill, Logan Abbott, and Jacob Green; his great-grandchildren, Julianna Diaz and Grayson Diaz, and his brother, Paul Campbell of Manchester. He was predeceased by his son, Sean Campbell and brother, Roger Campbell.
Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours, TODAY, Friday, August 4, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, CT. A funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, August 5, at 10 a.m. for a Graveside Service to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at East Cemetery, Manchester, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Jerry's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. My friend, my friend, come out and play,
The day is clear a real fine day,
We´ll build our cars, and race a few,
We´ll play till day has gone away

Today my friend I cannot play,
I have been called and I must play
In places, far, so far away

On July 29th 2023 our friend Gerry left this world for a better place
