Jane Catania Obituary
Jane Edith (Hartley) Catania, 86, went to sleep in death on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. She was surrounded by her immediate family, daughters Joyce LeBaron and Julie-Anna Catania-Pizighelli and her husband, Tony, and Jane's beloved husband Charles, to whom she had been married for 65 one-half years.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1936, along with her twin brother John, to Albert and Evelyn Hartley. In addition, Jane leaves behind her grandchildren, Jacqueline LeBaron Estrada and her husband, Joseph, and Alix LeBaron. From her loving Hartley family, brother John and his wife, Rita, and sister-in-law Loretta Hartley, her cousins and six nieces and nephews. From her husband's dear family, Madeline Catania, Carmella Ziemba, brother-in-law Joseph Catania, and six nephews. Jane was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Allan Hartley and his wife, Nancy; Donald Hartley, Gordon Hartley, his wife, Irene, and their children; and her brothers-in-law, Walter Ziemba, Jr., and Lawrence Catania.
Jane graduated from Enfield High School in 1954. She met Charles at work and was married to him on Nov. 11, 1956. She traveled with her husband for his employment relocating to various cities and states. Jane was known for her lively personality and her generous hospitality. Some of her fondest memories were of being surrounded by a large group of family and friends, especially at the family cottage at West Hill Pond in New Hartford. As an accomplished and fearless cook, she gave her time to charitable building projects, providing hearty meals and treats out of volunteer professional kitchens. As a dressmaker and seamstress for more than 50 years, she specialized in making wedding gowns. As a lifelong Christian and one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she comforted all she knew and endeavored to encourage everyone she met with her favorite scripture, Revelation 21:4. That passage says: "And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry or pain be anymore." She firmly believed this and had clearly expressed her hope that others would find solace in this thought after she herself passed away from us.
The family, respecting Jane's personal wishes, will not hold a public memorial service.
