Janina Krzanowski Obituary

Janina Krzanowski
Janina Krzanowski, 92, of Enfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home on May 7, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Jan Krzanowski. Janina was born on February 6, 1933, in Jablonna, Poland, the daughter of the late Michal Sobczak and Helena (Jajak) Sobczak. Janina was the first person in her family to come to this country in 1955, immigrating here from Germany to be later joined by her parents and four siblings. She met Jan in Holyoke and Jan and Janina married in 1958. Janina and Jan started a family soon after in Windsor, eventually settling in Enfield in 1964, where they raised their five sons. Janina loved tending her beautiful flower beds, vegetable garden, and going to tag sales. She loved to visit Elizabeth Park, in Hartford, to view the roses and, when younger, her sons would end each visit by feeding the ducks and goldfish. She was a wonderful cook, specializing in Polish food, and worked as a chef at the Felician Sisters in Enfield part-time. She became a citizen in 2006 and traveled back to her childhood home in Poland, where was greeted by her childhood best friend that she last saw at the start of World War II, at the age of 6.
Janina was predeceased by her husband, Jan, and her sons, Jan M. Krzanowski and Thomas Krzanowski. She is survived by her son, Edward Krzanowski and wife Catherine; her son, Richard Krzanowski; her son, Robert Krzanowski and wife Roseanne; five grandchildren, including Michael Krzanowski and wife Annmarie, Alysia Krzanowski, Valorie Kaczmarek and husband Cody, William Krzanowski and Brian Krzanowski. This year, Janina welcomed her great-granddaughter, Miriam Krzanowski. Janina was also predeceased by her brother, Henry Sobczak, and brother-in-law, Vincenty Szwed. She is survived by her sister, Lucy Szwed; her sister, Mary Bankowski and brother-in-law, Henry Bankowski; her sister, Aurelia Elgendy and brother-in-law, Samy Elgendy; her sister-in law, Joan Sobczak; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Janina's son, Richard, for the many years of selfless devotion and loving care provided to Janina and who was by her side when she passed.
Janina's family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, May 11th, at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 12th, at 10:00 am at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield.
