Joan MacDonald Obituary

Joan (Sullivan) MacDonald
Joan (Sullivan) MacDonald, 91, of Enfield, beloved wife of the late Robert P. MacDonald, peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, surrounded by family. Joan was born in Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland on April 23, 1933. Joan immigrated to the US at the age of 18 where she made a 12 day voyage on the streamliner MV Georgic to land in Boston, MA where she was embraced by the Sheehan and Sullivan families. She eventually settled in Enfield where she and her husband Robert raised their family. She was a faithful communicant of Saint Martha's Church. Joan is survived by her children, Eileen of Vernon and Kathleen of Enfield; her grandchildren, Kara, wife Lily of Holyoke and Aaron, wife Rayna of Suffield; her great-nephew Patrick Noonan and Sanford Moore who was like a grandson to her. She also leaves behind 3 great-grandchildren Jaydan, Leilani, Jenaesys, and grand fur baby Bitsy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary MacDonald along with a wonderful group of nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by many loved family members including George, Bill, Lucy, Lee, Sheila, Mary S. and William M. Joan dedicated many years to working at Sage Allen and later at the Mother To Be retail stores. After retiring, she joyfully helped care for many neighborhood children John, Jeff, and Dan. She leaves behind many longtime friends including Pat H., Marie E., Rita, and too many loving neighbors to mention, including her favorite mailman John. She enjoyed playing set back and having many get-togethers. She was known for her kindness and compassion to everyone and her wonderful sense of humor. She had a way of making you always feel comfortable, ready with a cup of tea and a sweet snack. If you were lucky, she may have just made one of her famous hot apple pies. She was a true angel on earth, and we are all better people for having known her. The heavens are certainly brighter now. A graveside service will be privately held where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband Robert. For online condolences please visit www.leetestevens.com.
