Kathleen Coleman
Kathleen Coleman, beloved wife of James (Jim) Coleman, of South Windsor, died peacefully at home on 3/25/24 with her husband at her bedside.
Born 3/7/1944 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Gerald and Blanche (Kilcoyne) Foley, Kathleen attended Holy Cross Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph Commercial-Academic High School both in Brooklyn.
Her career aspiration was to be an Executive Secretary which was achieved immediately upon graduation when she accepted a position at the Paul O'Neill International Detective Agency in Manhattan. After marrying in 1963 and starting their family, Jim and Kathleen moved to CT in late 1965. After a brief stop in East Hartford, they moved to South Windsor in May 1966.
Kathleen was involved in a number of ways in her community beginning in 1970: Democratic Town Committee, Campaign Manager for Probate Court Judge William Grace, Public Building Commission, Square Dance Club, Avery Heights Water Assn, Notary Public, ECHS Parents' Club Executive Board, and most recently an active member of the SW Senior Center.
In addition to her high school sweetheart Jim, Kathleen leaves behind her favorite child and 2 others: Coleen Brault, Jim (Sue) Coleman and Meg Wilson. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren who brought her so much joy: Tim, Jake, Avery, and Erin Wilson, Amanda Brault, Mackenzie (Mac) Robinson, Lindsey, and Brady Coleman as well as her 3 bonus grandchildren: Palmer, Brooke, and Morgan Oliveri.
She loved being a grandparent and spent countless hours at football, baseball, softball, volleyball, field hockey and basketball games, not to mention track meets, school concerts and soccer. She enjoyed supporting them and watching them excel. She always carried pictures of them with her. Taking them to see Santa every year was a treat and a special memory for all of them.
After her children started school, she returned to the workforce as the Administrative Secretary at St. Margaret Mary Parish. She received a number of letters of commendation from the Archdiocese of Hartford for the extraordinary work she did there working for 10 different priests over her 33-year career. After her retirement they hired 5 people to fill her shoes!
She and Jim loved to vacation with the family at their timeshare in the Poconos, close to where they honeymooned 60 years ago. They made the most of their free time traveling: trips to Ireland, California, Hawaii, Alaska, cruises to many Caribbean islands, Senior Center bus trips to Branson, upstate NY and Washington DC to name just a few.
As an only child, family was paramount to Kathleen. She leaves behind many lifelong friends and cousins, none closer to her than Joan Walsh of Bolton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sons-in-law Tom Brault and Scott Wilson.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Bickford Health Care Center and her primary caregiver, Barbara Thompson, for the patient and gentle care they provided to her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 2nd at 10 a.m., meeting directly at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Monday April 1st from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. For online condolences please visit
