Kenneth Edwin Fischer
Kenneth Edwin Fischer, 85, of South Windsor, beloved husband of 62 years to Nancy M. (Quast) Fischer, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Manchester Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on March 14, 1939, in Saginaw, MI, son to the late Arno and Elsie (Daenzer) Fischer.
Ken grew up in Frankenmuth, MI, and attended St. Lorenz Lutheran School and Frankenmuth High School graduating in 1958. He then attended the University of Michigan where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Prior to graduation, on July 14, 1962, he married his sweetheart, Nancy. Following graduation, Ken and Nancy moved to California where Ken was employed at Rocketdyne on the Saturn 5 engines that carried the astronauts to the moon. During his time in California, he received his master's degree from USC. In 1969, they relocated to Connecticut where Ken worked for Pratt & Whitney for more than 38 years before his retirement. Ken was an active member in his church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, in South Windsor, and Lutheran Hour Ministries, an auxiliary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He enjoyed cooking, making candles, reading and watching old western movies.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Ken is survived by his son, Ronald Fischer of Vernon; his two daughters, Janice Mathieu and her husband Richard of Charlotte, NC, and Julie Starrett of Crosby, TX; his five grandchildren, Stacie Mathieu, Alexandra Fischer, Krista Bredemeyer, LeAnn Purcell, and William Bredemeyer and his wife McKenzie; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Purcell; two sisters, Rhea Bartels and her husband Jim and Lori Payne; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Phyllis Avery and her husband Robert, and Eunice Childers and her husband Victor; his brother-in-law, Gary Payne and his Goddaughter, Donna Stetterington.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 239 Graham Rd., South Windsor, with a time of visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held privately at the request of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center Dr., St. Louis, MO 63141-9584.
